Whilst the Costa Brava has been popular since the fifties with British tourists it has in recent times perhaps been overlooked. This seems crazy to me as there are some absolutely wonderful reasons to visit costa brava with kids and here are just 5!

1\ Wonderful Dramatic Coastline
Not just beaches but rugged cliffs, secluded coves, pounding surf and mountains too! Loads for the kids to explore and plenty to keep the parents busy too. There is sailing and watersports and a variety of snorkelling to be done in the coves, just find the right one for you.
You can stay in many of the towns throughout the region or perhaps find a luxury self-catering villas in Costa Brava to enjoy!

2/ Huge Blue Flag Beaches
Not just one blue flag beach but many blue flag beaches in Costa Brava. You can relax on them whilst the kids run for miles. They are long, wide and brilliantly sandy, perfect for sandcastle making!
You can pick your favourite to hang out at but ones that often top the list Tossa de Mar’s two Blue Flag beaches, or perhaps Loret de Mar which has five sand-and-shingle beaches together with lots of bars and pubs. Don’t forget about Calella de la Costa too with its 3 kilometres of sand.
3/Visit Barcelona
You can combine it with a trip to Barcelona. There are so many things to do in Barcelona with kids, so much so that I’ve written a full blog post about it and you can find that here, you can follow in the footsteps of footballing greats at the Nou Camp, go on the cable cars, head to the many many parcs or perhaps even visit Tibidabo Amusement Park which is located a little way out of the city centre.
4/ Visit PortAventura Aquatic Park
Ok so Port Aventura Aquatic Park is not strictly in the Costa Brava but it is so close and it would be churlish not to include it. It’s an epic water park, next to an even bigger theme park and it has the most incredible number of slides.
You can read a review of a visit to the Aquatic Park with a little one on Mudpie Fridays but I’d definitely like to take my three older ones for a whizz up and down those slides, I love a good waterpark!
5/ Easy to get there!
From the UK, Costa Brava is so easy to get to. You can fly into Barcelona, or Girona and the flights are only a couple of hours from the UK. The public transport in the region is plentiful and is really easy to navigate so you could either do the trip by car or by train/bus. Putting Barcelona and the Costa Brava into the same trip definitely makes sense.
