Having just returned from an amazing holiday in Cornwall in January, I wanted to tell you about 5 Reasons to Visit Cornwall this year with Kids.

Beaches

It’s obvious isn’t it, but it has to be said, it’s for the beaches! Cornwall has some of the best beaches in the world (check out this Top 6 Beaches Post by Mummy Travels) and that is probably reason alone to head to Cornwall with the Kids. Whatever the weather, whatever the time of year there is always something to do on the beach with the Kids.  Cornish Horizons have some beautiful properties that you could stay in really close to those stunning beaches too!

National Maritime Museum

A hands on museum with signs that say ‘Climb Aboard’ rather than ‘Don’t touch!’ It was interactive throughout and a perfect place to while away a morning with 3 five year olds and a 2 year old who thinks she is 5!  All for only £5 per child too. Definitely worth a visit whilst you’re in Cornwall particularly on a rainy day.  See our full review here.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan

It is well worth visiting The Lost Gardens of Heligan even in the rain with kids,  you’ll need the right clothes on and you need to enjoy being outside if it’s raining, but we had a fun 3 hours there on a wet January day with three 5 year olds and a 2 year old.  Why not read our full review you can see large installations like the one below, see farm animals, play on the adventure playground and even brave the rope bridge!

Whilst busier you’ll be able to spend even more time there in the summer as you can see from Tin Box Traveller’s review here.

The Eden Project

Whilst we thought this would be more suitable for kids over 8, the Eden Project continues to get rave reviews and no-one can fault the ethos behind the place.  Kids will love to run around and for children (probably around 8) there is a trail to be purchased that keeps them exploring new things.  It’s two large domes provide wonderful cover in the rain.  One for the list!

St Mawes Castle

St Mawes Castle, which can be visited in the same day as Pendennis Castle too, is among the best-preserved of Henry VIII’s coastal artillery fortresses and there are cannons everywhere and the kids loved them!!  They spent ages climbing up on them, jumping around on them, re-enacting battles and generally just playing on them! A total hit!  Definitely a fab day out.

  1. We have only ventured as far as Devon with the kids. I used to love Cornwall when I was growing up, and we really must take the kids before they leave home. The beaches sound amazing and I would love to visit The Eden Project x
