The last time I was in Jamaica I was significantly younger, I had just met my now husband and we had escaped to Jamaica to spend our first Christmas together. We stayed in a lovely All Inclusive Just for Adults, but now we have three Mini Travellers should we try again? It would be very different I’m sure but these are 6 reasons why I really want to start booking a trip to Jamaica soon.
1. Sensible Flight time from the UK to Jamaica
It’s only an 9 hour flight from the UK and you can fly direct from Manchester and London.
We’ve recently returned from Florida which is practically the same flight time and I know the kids can do it. The ability to fly direct really helps with moving kids around as once you have them snuggled into their seats and content with their iPads or seat back entertainment they are pretty much content for the duration of the flight and may even sleep.
2. Brilliant Water Parks
Particularly when you have kids in tow, water parks are one of the best things to do and there are some brilliant water parks in Jamaica. You can cool down and splash around with the kids at water parks, including the Sugar Mill Falls Water Park, the largest one in Jamaica. Sugar Mill Falls has waterfalls, lagoons, a 280-foot water slide, a jungle garden, terraced pools and a lazy river. And if you really want to treat yourself you can hire a private cabana with your very own butler.
3. Children are welcome
Children are actively welcomed and loved, not just tolerated. There is a place for them in restaurants, on beaches and in hotels and villas. It isn’t an island just for loved up honeymooners!
4. Beautiful Villas
There are stunning villas all around the Island with space for children to run around and play. When I think of Jamaica I think of fun and happiness. I think of stunning sunsets and beautiful sea views. Just like this one on this photo from Top Villas.
5. Jamaican Jerk Chicken
Definitely a reason all of its own. There is no better place to eat Jerk Chicken than in Jamaica (although my friend Oli’s mum does make a mean one!) and kids will love to watch it being cooked in the street, so don’t just order this in a restaurant, take the kids to a street vendor and eat jerk chicken like the locals.
6. Crowd Free Beaches
Some simply stunning crowd free beaches in Jamaica and for me this makes it incredibly family friendly. If there are less people on the beach your kids are safer as you can see them at all times. For me this is a huge win!
NB: Photos have been provided by Top Villas who have some fabulous villas in Jamaica to rent.
I’ve never really thought about the going to Jamaica but after reading this, maybe I think we should go
I definitely think the Caribbean is great with kids – ironically when I took my daughter on our cruise, this was the one stop where she stayed on board when I went off to climb waterfalls so I feel like I owe her!
