DAY Rome with Kids: Arrival and Brief Explore
We arrived on a flight mid-morning, and took a taxi to Piazza Sforza Cesarini (2 mins from our accommodation) and had lunch at Polese.
We then checked into our AirBnb in a fabulous location on Via Dei Banchi Vecchi. It was called Casa (IM) Perfection. A few quirks with the accommodation around water pressure, but there is a lift and it really is the most fabulous location for exploring. We walked practically everywhere!
We took an early evening stroll around the city.
DAY Rome with Kids: Golf Buggy Tour booked with Rome4Kids Tours.
Rome4Kids picked us up from our apartment at 9.30am in the golf buggy and dropped us back off at 12.30pm. We took in the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain. Spanish Steps, Navona Square, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Farnese and Piazza del Popolo with a treasure hunt too. It was such an amazing experience and a fab way to see the city with kids, particularly if you are short on time.
Leonardo da Vinci Museum
After another long lunch we wandered over to the Leonardo da Vinci Museum in Piazza del Popolo which wasn’t a bad way to pass an hour however not a must see. The kids did some scootering in the traffic-free piazza too.
DAY Rome with Kids: Colosseum and Roman Forum tour with Rome4Kids Tours.
This tour was superb and possibly one of my favourites. Marco was an amazing guide and really brought both the Coloseum and the Forum to life with spectacular story telling.
I do LOVE both of these places though and they might be my favourite spots in Rome.
The tour was 3 hours long, so after visiting Palatine Hill ourselves when it finished, we found ice cream and then made our way back to Piazza Sforza Cesarini for a long Sunday lunch at Da Luigi before an afternoon siesta.
Dark Rome Tour with Angel Tours
Our evening was spent with Angel Tours Europe who kindly hosted us on the Dark Rome Tour a scandalous tour of Roman history, its gossip and its murderous past. A talk about the blood and guts behind the greatness of Ancient Rome with real scandal and a less Romantic slant. Kids loved it.
DAY Rome with Kids: Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St Peters Basilica with Rome4Kids Tours
Read our full Review of the Vatican with Kids Tour booked with Rome4Kids here.
Again the Vatican and St Peters Basilica are the most incredible places. I’m lucky enough to have been a number of times before. The tour with Rome 4 Kids is a treasure hunt and aimed very much at the kids. Tricks like counting keys in each room and locating specific paintings to tick off things on their treasure hunt. What has to be said is that visiting the Vatican at the moment is incredible. Pre Covid there was around 40,000 visitors a day and the guides said it’s now around 15,000. The Sistine Chapel felt almost empty.
Be a Gladiator for the Day – Rome with Kids
In the afternoon we did a Be a Gladiator arranged by Rome4Kids Tours This is categorically the BEST thing Eve did in Rome, she’s mentioned it lots. They both loved it but Eve states this as her favourite thing. 2 hours of sword fighting (with wood then real swords) and having a fight with the trainer and then me! I was terrified.
Tonnarello for dinner that evening in Trastevere.
DAY Rome with Kids: Art Class & Pizza Making.
Read our full Review of the Pizza Making class booked with Rome4Kids here.
A quieter morning yesterday which was well needed at Michelangelo for a day which was organised by Rome4Kids Tours. I can’t tell you how lovely it was to sit down for a couple of hours and do something with the kids after 4 days of 20k steps a day!
The morning is peppered with some history too and references to where in Rome you’ll find beautiful mosaics (everywhere!) but we had particularly noticed the incredible mosaics in St Peters Basilica after the Vatican museum – ours were almost as good…..
Lovely afternoon learning to make pizza at a pizza restaurant with Eat and Walk Italy all organised by Rome4Kids Tours – the pizza they made was so huge and delicious they couldn’t finish it all so they’ve brought some of it home to have for supper. Pizza has most definitely featured every day on this trip, if not twice a day, and Rome pizza is so good. Really thin and really delicious!
DAY Rome with Kids:
Morning off as no-one could quite get out of bed today and we didn’t have anything booked. It was actually well needed.
Afternoon at the modern art museum MAXXI – Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo which wasn’t all together a huge success but we had fun getting there on multiple buses.
We celebrated with possibly the most expensive drinks ever near Piazza Popolo with a coke (small one at that) costing 9 Euros. Yes 9 Euros.
DAY Rome with Kids:
Relaxed day hanging out with the girls today. We walked up to the Villa Borghese gardens today and tried out the karting. Thanks for the tip Mama Loves Rome.
We had to go via the 150 flavours ice cream shop near the pantheon Gelateria Della Palma but they walked miles again.
On the way back we wandered to the bottom of the park and spent ages listening to a violinist looking over piazza poppolo.
Last night dinner at our local restaurant in Piazza Sforza Cesarini
