The last time I was in Barbados I was 5 months pregnant with our eldest. I dug out the photos recently when I wrote a post about Tips on Flying when Pregnant and it reminded me just how much I love the Island. It also made me start to think about why we should go back with the kids, very soon, and I’m actually contemplating a trip at October Half Term.  Here are 6 reasons why I really want to start booking a trip.

1. Sensible Flight time from the UK to Barbados

It’s only an 8 hour flight from the UK and you can fly direct from Manchester and London.

We’ve recently returned from Florida which is practically the same flight time and I know the kids can do it.  The ability to fly direct really helps with moving kids around as once you have them snuggled into their seats and content with their iPads or seat back entertainment they are pretty much content for the duration of the flight and may even sleep.

2. Crowd Free Beaches

There are some simply stunning crowd free beaches in Barbados and for me this makes it incredibly family friendly. If there are less people on the beach your kids are safer as you can see them at all times. For me this is a huge win!

3. Beautiful Villas

There are stunning villas everywhere and so much space.  When I think of Barbados I think of relaxed luxury and green vistas.  Just like this one on this photo from Top Villas.

4. You can Swim with Turtles

This is something I really really want to do.  I can just picture the kids faces as, once they realise they won’t hurt them, enjoy watching the turtles swim past them, up and under and around.  I know some of the companies might have minimum age limits, but if that’s the case maybe they can just watch me from the boat! Oops not very parental that is it!

5. Visit a breathtakingly beautiful, crystallized limestone cavern

Harrison’s Cave is an enormous underground cave stream system, with huge caverns and spectatcular formations. You can climb aboard a tram, and travel past clear streams and cascading waterfalls. Stunning and also perfect for a rainy day.

6. Ride in a submarine

Kids will love seeing the inside of a submarine and peering out at the tropical fish. Atlantis Submarines Barbados whisk passengers to a coral-encrusted shipwreck to see tropical fish up close. Special night dives feature nocturnal sea creatures few get to see during the day.

7. Pretend to be a pirate.

Pretending to be a pirate is one of my kids favourite thing to do.  You can take the kids on a lunchtime cruise aboard the Jolly Roger I, and you can even combine this with turtle watching/swimming we mentioned above.

8. Party at a Fish Fry.

Let your kids strut their stuff at the Oistins Friday Night Fish Fry, they will love joining in with the Caribbean dance moves whilst you will love indulging in the island specialty, flying fish.
