Yesterday we went to Abergele/Pensarn beach on our way down to Gwynfryn Farm in Pwllheli. Now with this review I am not necessarily saying you should all rush out and visit as I am well aware that it doesn’t have lots to recommend it to others but I will try and explain why me and the rest of the Phillips clan will visit practically every time we pass this part of the North Wales coast.
My Gran and Grandad (Dad’s Mum and Dad) lived in a large house in Abergele during my childhood and we visited every year for a long time often with other cousins, aunties and uncles. We always made our way down to the beach come rain or shine, with a pocketful of coins for the slot machines, won playing Queenie or New Market. Dad and his brothers and sisters grew up visiting their Great Aunt every summer in Abergele before Gran and Grandad moved into the house so it has childhood memories for all of us and we want our children to experience the same.
Thankfully for us (not necessarily for new visitors) Pensarn beach has stayed the same for a very long time. It’s the same amusement arcade, the same cafe (which is always open come rain or shine) and obviously the same stoney beach for throwing/skimming stones into the sea. It being the North Wales coast there was also the same weather when we visited!
We were only there for a couple of hours, a stop off on the way to our holiday in Pwllheli, but time enough for a play on the kiddy rides/2p machines and the slot machines.
Time to throw stones in the sea.
Time to eat chips in the (greasy spoon) cafe on the front where my 3 girls reduced the average age in there by a significant amount.
And obviously time to eat a quick ice cream before the rain came in. It’s never too cold for ice cream when you are 3 or 36.
The new discovery for us this time was that the long flat promenade is perfect for scootering. So we will probably visit next year, and the year after and probably the year after that too! Each year remembering different good times with Gran, Grandad and Flash.

Lovely post. Sounds like you had a lovely time. I think it’s great to share simple fond memories of places with your children, I’m sure they will have equally fond memories of this when they grow up.
