As part of our recent press trip to Catalonia in October 2019 to experience some of the best things to do in Costa Dorada, away from the coast, I was surprised to see Spa on the itinerary: now don’t get me wrong I love a good spa day but have never taken the kids.

It surprised me so much that I got in touch with the PR and asked if it was an error, she confirmed it was not, that Aquum Spa & Wellness in La Pineda – Vila-seca was family friendly and that she was sure that the kids would love it.

So that’s how we found ourselves heading to a spa on the second morning of our short break to Salou in in the Costa Dorada, Catalonia.

The morning that we visited morning we had woken up to a slightly chillier morning than the day before and the prospect of a sauna was very inviting.

Where is Aquum Spa & Wellness?

Aquum Spa & Wellness is situated close to the beach, just back by one street and it was very well signposted and easy to find.

The spa is close to PortAventura World and Camping Sanguli which is where we were staying.

When is Aquum Spa & Wellness open?

Aquum Spa & Wellness is open from 10am to 10pm, entrance available until 9pm, the pools close at 9.30pm.

Spa Experience

On entry we were greeted warmly by the staff and shown around the facility: which not only provides day spa facilities but monthly gym membership and treatments too.

The spa has a great swimming area (650 sq. meters of water apparently) with indoor pools at 32° and 36° and an outdoor pool at 30° providing 50 different sensations in over a 100 stations of jet loungers and benches, enveloping beds, cervical jets, waterfalls, water curtain, hot pipes, hydrodynamic river and outdoor hydro massage.

We all got our wrist bands that operated the lockers in the changing area and we excitedly headed off into the pool.

As we got there for 10am, just as it opened there was hardly anyone there. This was perfect for us as it was definitely quieter at that time than when we left at midday.  We almost had the pools to ourselves. We got straight into the indoor pool that took you outside and swam straight out.

The girls loved the water fountains and the jets and the hot tub outside – it felt a little like the outside area at Center Parcs if you’ve done that,  although to be fair with a lot less kids around.

As the pool started to get busier there was sometimes spaces you couldn’t get to, but whilst we were there (late October) it was never full.

Aquum Club

If you decide to go for the 30,00 this includes access to the quieter upstairs area where there is a minimum age of 12 years. Upstairs there are full body water sprays, a wide variety of shower sensations (fine mist spray, contrasting temperatures, etc). Hot and freezing cold contrasting pools at 42° and 18°. A lovely 36° Jacuzzi. Thermal zone with sauna, steam bath and ice fountain. Zen zone with tea room, infrared heating lights, contemplative room with aroma, chromo and music therapy.

It felt much more spa like, particularly as I could wave to the kids donwnstairs with hubby but couldn’t hear them!

Is it worth going to Aquum Spa & Wellness with Kids?

Yes I would say it is worth going to Aquum Spa & Wellness with Kids. It’s not the cheapest morning out for a family of 5. It would have cost us 120 but if you’ve booked a trip and the weather isn’t great one day then its lovely to get the kids some well needed pool time in a really lovely environment.

Need to know

Swimming caps are compulsory but can be purchased for about 2-3 euros at reception on arrival.

Children are allowed in the Spa, some customers do not seem to like this

Maximum access 3 hours

Children Under 12 can’t go in the club area upstairs
