Formby beach, Merseyside

When you arrive into Formby there are a couple of car parks to choose from; one being Lifeboat Road and the other Victoria Road which is the National Trust Car Park. With younger kids head through the dunes to the beach along the walkways and you can either stick to the paths with prams until you hit the beach or venture off a little to do some smaller dunes. There is pretty much always an ice cream van in the car park but no other facilities to speak off!

Southport beach, Merseyside

There are some breathtaking coastline vistas at Southport beach. All along Sefton, vast, sandy beaches extend over 22 kilometers. It’s a fantastic location for an affordable family outing! Kids will enjoy paddling in the crystal-clear water, flying kites, and building sandcastles. It’s also important to remember that you can usually park easily on the beach. So you’ll have access to all of your beach stuff!

Filey beach, Yorkshire

Filey lies at the extreme edge of the Yorkshire Wolds and is located 12 miles north of Bempton along the seashore (technically in North Yorkshire). It is a far more upscale resort than Bridlington and has kept many Edwardian characteristics, such as some beautiful panorama gardens. It, too, has miles of expansive sandy beach that stretches most of the way to Flamborough Head in the south and for about a mile to the protruding rocks of Filey Brigg in the north. A nature walk meanders for a few miles through the area there. One of the greatest sandy beaches near to Manchester, this beach is also one of the cleanest of the group.

The Lancashire coastline of Morecambe

Five miles to the west of Lancaster is the coastal town of Morecambe. With the Lake District fells visible beyond, the sweep of the bay is the main draw. The Stone Jetty has bird-themed sculptures and themes, acknowledging Morecambe Bay as Britain’s most significant wading and wildfowl bird wintering habitat. A statue of one of Britain’s most beloved comedians, Eric Bartholomew, who adopted the stage name Eric Morecambe when he met his comic sidekick Ernie Wise, can be seen a little distance down the prom. It’s a great place to spend the afternoon relaxing by the ocean.

1 hour 20 minutes from Manchester

Beach in Blackpool, Lancashire

Blackpool continues to be the model beach town in Britain. It has a Golden Mile, piers, amusement arcades, tram and donkey rides, fish-and-chip shops, candy floss stalls, glitzy venues, six miles of beach (the tide ebbs by half a mile, leaving plenty of sand at low tide), a renovated prom, and an increasingly lovely, gentrified center, in addition to its piers, amusement arcades, piers, amusement arcades, trams and donkeys. This place is a lot of fun! The main attraction is Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a thrilling collection of amusements close to the shore and located on the South Promenade, just south of South Pier.
