If you’re heading up North, or down South and want to break your journey on the way here are some campsites that you can stay at which are near the M6.

Quiet Site, Ullswater

The Quiet Site Ullswater is a camp site on Ullswater in Penrith. They are ideally located,  just 10 minutes from the M6 but in the heart of the Lake District National Park.  They are positioned right on the Ullswater Way – a 20 mile circular walk wound England’s most beautiful lake.  World Class attractions just a few minutes from The Quiet Site include Aira Force waterfalls (superb circular walk from us),  Ullswater Steamers and Lowther Castle. England’s most popular mountain, Helvellyn, is just a few minutes drive from us.

Water-based fun, walking and the attractions of the Lakes are accessible from this site. The family-friendly Windermere Club campsite is betwixt popular Bowness-on-Windermere and the bustling market town of Kendal.

Its location makes it ideal for exploring both towns and the varied attractions of the southern Lake District. Sit back and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this campsite, the plentiful wildlife and the wonderful views. Windermere is not only spacious, it’s well laid out and boasts many environmentally-friendly facilities. There is a separate tent camping area, backpacker facility, a family camping area, children’s play area and a 4* rated pub restaurant The Whistling Pig.

There are many walks from the campsite. Across the fields is the village of Staveley as well as a shop, supermarket and a couple of pubs the Hawkshead Brewery is here too. There are more walks to enjoy from the village including Potters Fell and Reston Scar. Bowness-on-Windermere offers plenty of water-based activities including cruises, canoeing and wind surfing and attractions including The World of Beatrix Potter and Aquarium of the Lakes. Take the chain ferry to the western side of the lake and visit the pretty village of Hawkshead and Claife Heights, National Trust woodland great for walking, cycling and wildlife spotting. Fell Foot Park at the southern tip of the lake is perfect for picnics or a swim in the lake.

Springwood Camping Site

3.8 miles from the M6

Springwood Camping site is an Eco friendly small site in the Lake District with two 5 metre glamping Yurt tents with wood burning stoves, both are fully equipped with all your pots, pans cutlery and crockery all you need to take are your own towels and warm snuggly bedding.

The site is sheltered and quiet in a natural unspoiled setting on the edge of a small wood beside the river.

Alanholme Caravan & Camping site

Alanholme is a small quiet Caravan & Camping site, perfect for exploring the beautiful Eden Valley, The Pennines and the Lake District. They accept touring caravans, motor homes and tents, and most recently a glamping pod. Ideally situated in the village of Long Marton, near Appleby, in the Eden Valley of Cumbria, favouring panoramic views across the Lake District fells. Offering ample 16 amp hook-ups, toilet & shower facilities this is an ideal location between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, with the Scottish Borders less than an hour away. Long Marton is a quiet village 3.5 miles north of Appleby-in-Westmorland with a well run country pub serving excellent meals, also local bakery. Alanholme is three miles from the Pennine Way at Dufton and only a slight detour off the National Cycle Route 68. It is also on the route of Lady Anne’s Way with close links to the Settle to Carlisle railway. A perfect base for exploring Appleby’s historic market town, in the beautiful Eden Valley, the Pennines and the Lake District, Alanholme is just off the A66 and so great for breaking a journey to/from Scotland (Glasgow and Edinburgh approximately two and a half hours).

Waterside Farm Campsite Ullswater

Waterside Farm Campsite Ullswater is a working farm and campsite on the shore of Ullswater in the Lake District . Waterside House farm and Campsite has been run by the same family for five generations. The farmhouse is dated 1694 and is part of a working farm with land covering 279 acres. The farm is home to a flock of Swaledale Ewes, who spend most of their time on the nearby Barton Fell. At certain times of the year you may see the sheep being dipped, sheared or even the birth of a lamb.You will certainly see sheepdogs at work. Cattle and calves are reared and can be seen in the fields around the campsite during the summer months Waterside House provides excellent facilities and a peaceful park in which to relax and enjoy your holiday in the midst of the Lakeland Scenery. Their clients, many of whom return year after year, are mainly families, couples, walkers and a few well-supervised groups who enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

Shap Fell Bothy & Camping Barn

Old Hall Caravan Park

Pennine View Park

A family run touring caravan and camping site. Nestled in the Eden Valley with great facilities. Perfectly placed for walking, cycling and relaxing. The Engine Shed, on-site family friendly bar, open Thursday-Monday, 4pm-10pm. A picturesque family run Caravan Park and Campsite nestled in the historic market town of Kirkby Stephen. The park edges on to the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is only a short drive from the Lake District National Park. They boast flat, level pitches with electric hook ups, a secluded camping field and beautiful belle tents with quality toilet and shower facilities. The park sits on the site of a old railway and goods yard, it is beautifully planted and has views to the hills in most directions.

Usha Gap

The campsite is situated near the beautiful village of Muker, set in one of the most beautiful areas in Yorkshire, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Parks. the views that will take your breath away there are plenty of walks to enjoy, short or long, easy or hard, The Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast walk pass nearby, and there are plenty more walks for you to enjoy you will be spoilt for choice.

The wildlife and wild flowers are in abundance, the stone walls and barns set into the landscape is what Swaledale is renowned for. Their spectacular location makes their campsite an ideal location for families, walkers or just wanting to get away from it all.

Usha Gap campsite is within half a mile and in walking distance of Muker and Thwaite, there are footpaths to the villages that are mainly off road so are safe for children to venture through.

Park Foot Holiday Park

Park Foot is a family run camping and caravan park, just 1 mile from Pooley Bridge.

Set in magnificent scenery, their park accommodates touring caravans, tents and motorhomes.

They also provide Luxurious self catering accommodation in holiday houses and lodges sleeping 2- 10 people, most with stunning lake views. They have some situated on the park, a few in Pooley Bridge and one tucked away towards Howtown.
