Hidden away in the heart of Baggeridge Country Park, Challenge Academy is a high ropes adventure course which is suitable for all ages.
Challenge Academy is a community interest project with a wealth of outdoor activity deliver experience. Their aim is to being innovative and accessible outdoor learning opportunities to the community and to engage all abilities. We went along with our 4 year old and 9 year old to see what they had on offer.
When we arrived, we were met by enthusiastic and friendly staff and headed off to two separate activities. The 4 year old headed off to a high ropes with Daddy while I headed off to a more challenging set of activities with the 9 year old.
One feature that Challenge Academy offer is the ability to do a series of high rope activities without having to wear a harness. The Nets Adventure is a brand new challenge which allows you to choose your own route across the nets and encounter a range of different challenges and obstacles. Having done high ropes in a harness before, our 4 year old loved the freedom of not having to wear a harness and the fact he could go ahead and explore by himself. He spend a good hour enjoying the challenges set by the friendly staff and growing in confidence as he played.
Meanwhile, we headed up to the High Ropes Adventure Course. There are two different height options here and we started slightly lower down before heading to the very top course. There were lots of different challenges and obstacles to tackle again, under the supervision of friendly and encouraging staff.
After this, we had a go at another couple of challenges which included the Powerfan Descender (I was a little nervous over this one but the 9 year old jumped right off!), zip line and vertical climbing tower.
We were all worn out at the end but luckily, Baggeridge Country Park has a lovely little café on site to replenish your energy after all that climbing!
We loved discovering this new activity on our doorstep, outdoor adventure staff are renowned as being a friendly bunch but I have to say, the staff here were fantastic!
So if you are looking for an adventure over the summer, Challenge Academy is definitely worth a look, there is also a park and little train on site in the Country Park so lots of activities to help you make a day of it!
