On Christmas Day we have a family tradition that involves going out for a walk after present opening and before lunch.  It gets us all dressed, it gets the kids some well needed fresh air and it makes us all hungry for lunch.

In previous years we have had cold blustery walks, and last year we had a lovely sunny one. However this year it was pouring down.  We definitely considered not going, but as the kids said, it is only water and we have wellies and umbrellas – so why would we not go!  Fair point we thought.  So we put on our waterproofs our wells and the kids took their umbrellas and we went for a walk in the woods.

Thankfully Santa’s sleigh had dropped some chocolate coins in the woods on its way overhead so the girls could find these on the way round.

Lily was the most excited about the walk as she could use her matching purple wellies, coat and umbrella all from Hatley.  I think they are gorgeous and are definitely going to feature in lots of our Winter days out posts. Having had a very cold walk out to Hilbre Island before Christmas and realising that the kids wellies were split I was really pleased to receive really good high quality wellies for Lily.  These wellies really are a cut above lots of other ones we have had as they have a really strong base and appear to be really good quality!  She loves the fact that the wellies match her coat and umbrella and I love how pretty yet practical they are.  The coat has a lovely comfy terry lining and is waterproof and perhaps most importantly machine washable!

Have a look at our photos from our day out.

  1. Karen they are so cute, we too went for a Christmas Day walk, Joe took his bike bless him even though it was raining. Thank god we did as the next day park was flooded. The rain has been horrific here. Thank goodness for wellies xx

  2. Your girls are so cute, Karen. The boys wear Hatley pjs … such great quality clothing. I love the idea of a Christmas Day Walk but I’m not so sure I’d be able to prise the boys away from their stockings. I might give it a try next year and see how horrified they are at the thought.
