Have you ever considered owning a second home on the Costa del Sol? Growing up it was definitely something I considered a lot, something I thought I’d aim for, but then my twenties came and brought with it parties and clubs and backpacking and island hopping. The thoughts of a second home anywhere were firmly placed at the back of my mind and then we had kids and I started to think differently.

How amazing would it be to have a house that you knew, a house that had everything in your kids wanted.  A house where you could leave all manner of things you have to take with you on holiday all the time so that when you travelled you could travel really light. A house that you could go to in the school summer holidays when accommodation across Europe simply triples.

The beauty of being freelance and working from home is that in reality I could work from anywhere. Provided the hubby wouldn’t miss us too much I could technically spend 6 weeks of the Summer in the Costa del Sol and work whist I was out there.  This appeals to me very much indeed.  It would be the ultimate freedom in flexible working.  Can you imagine working here:

The Costa del Sol can sometimes have the reputation of being too British, too filled with tourists wanting egg and chips and pints of Stella, but that’s really less than half the story. There are places with real Andalucian feel, there are nature reserves, marinas and places with simply stunning views of the sea!

For me a holiday home on the Costa del Sol would have to include a swimming pool (all 3 of mine are obsessed with swimming) and a heated one at that that could be used all year round.  It would need to be walking distance to the sea and have a village in the vicinity, to buy local food. I think a local golf course might be high up the agenda too, although we’d also be looking for something we can all do as a family – maybe tennis courts which 4 out of the 5 of us are now learning to play.

We spend a lot of time outdoors even when we are at home but what I think I’d love about a holiday home in the Costa del Sol is the year round warmer climate and the ability to be outside in the Winter too even if it’s not for swimming but for long walks and trips to the beach. I miss the warmth of the sun through the winter months.

A holiday home would also mean the freedom to holiday more with the extended family and spend time altogether without again worrying about peak season prices.

There are a range of properties on offer with Lifestyle Homes, which we are hoping to visit soon, and considering all my criteria I’d like to visit Nueva Alcaidesa first to see if it lived up to all my expectations and demands.

There certainly looks to be sea views:

There is definitely swimming pools:

and the golf course requirement is ticked too:

We just need to head out there and take a look for ourselves as to whether the adjacent nature reserve, lives up to expectations and whether the views really are as stunning as they seem!
