Our first guest blogger Mimi Thomas (who travelled to Country Kids with her husband and three children five times between 2008 and 2013) has written the following review for Mini Travellers. We have been to Country Kids five times between 2008 and 2013. It is a great place for a family holiday. Parents get a real rest, not just doing the same stuff in a different location. There is lots for the kids to do, so everyone is happy. To get there we flew from Gatwick or Luton to Montpellier. Other nearby airports are Beziers, Carcassone and Marseille. You need to hire a car to get from the airport to Country Kids, and as with many airports queues to collect the hire cars can be long and slow. My husband would dash off to sort out the car hire whilst I would follow slowly behind with the rest of the luggage and the kids. The drive to Country Kids is easy enough and takes about an hour. Tracey (one of the owners) provides detailed instructions on how to get there. The setting is beautiful.
On arrival, we were always met, usually by Tracey. The gate has a security code to get in to ensue everyone’s safety. Someone will also be available to take your bags to your room. I think there is an arrival time, but it has always been pretty flexible. We have stayed in three of the apartments : apartment 1, 3 and 5. Despite being the smallest, apartment 5 was my favourite. Right at the top with great views. The apartments are stocked with all the baby gear you need. The rooms are a good size, light and airy. There is a welcome basket with fruit and so on. Also a bag of L’Occitane toiletries which I thought was a nice touch. There is also a cleaner everyday and wifi, albeit it didn’t work all of the time. Each day would start with us popping down to pick up breakfast at the bar. Around half nine, farmer Stuart would call “animals” for animal feeding time. Collecting eggs was my kids favourite part of animal feeding time. The girls loved it (last year age 4 and 2) but my son (last year age 6) grew a little bored of it. After a quick ice pop they usually went to creche for the rest of the morning. In the afternoon we usually went swimming. The swimming pool has a fence and a child proof gate. There is also an on site- play area, trampoline, table tennis, bikes and tennis. The Creche is well run and the kids enjoyed it. They loved doing a show on the last day. There is no booking of the creche required – you can just dip in and out as needed as it is available all day. We did a few off site activities- I think the tree-tops activity was my favourite. Other ones we tried we were horse riding, pony riding, pedalos, horse and cart and kayaking. All were well organised and we enjoyed them all.
Overall we had a great holiday and I could go on and on about the details. Suffice to say Tracey and Stuart have thought of everything to make it a great holiday. If you agree with Mimi’s review and want to review Country Kids or another property you have stayed at, please do get in touch.
