This summer you can step back 90 million years in the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, and experience a breathtaking prehistoric safari at Dinosaur World Live.
The stunning dinosaur puppetry may make you think this is too scary for your little ones, but the reassuringly well informed dinosaur expert Miranda (played Lucy Varney) gently introduces the immense dinosaurs and the children in the audience remain calm and enthralled. A few children are even brave enough to go onto the stage and meet the dinosaurs when invited by Miranda.
The show is advertised as for ages 3 up, and we tested that by taking our three, seven and nine year old daughters. Not only did our youngest daughter enjoy it without any sign of fear, but her hand shot up in the air and before we knew it she was on stage with Miranda calmly stroking a baby Triceratops called Beatrice.
The puppets, designed and created by Max Humphries and his team, are based around an aluminium frame making them light and strong, with foam muscles and cloth skin or fur feathers. The puppeteers make them move, and roar, with such skill that it really brings them alive.
The show was not only entertaining, but informative, with Miranda introducing each of the amazing puppets and sharing DinoFacts with the audience. Over the course of the show the audience were introduced to Brutus the Triceratops, and baby Beatrice, Juliet the Segnosaurus, Gertrude the Giraffatuta (or giant giraffe) and Orlando the Microraptor. Perhaps the most feared of the dinosaurs was Titus the Tyrannosaurus Rex and his mischievous Baby Tamora. The audience were charged with watching over Gertrude’s egg throughout the show and were treated to a touching moment at the end fo the show when the egg began to hatch.
All this took place at a brand new theatre, the Troubadour in the newly transformed Wembley Park. The theatre which was formerly the venue of the live televised X-Factor shows, has been transformed with a wonderful new welcoming bar area, with plenty of space for children to stretch their legs before and after the show. The theatre is located next to Boxpark and London Designer Outlet, with many shops and restaurants, and an all weather adventure playpark so you can definitely make a day trip of your visit to Dinosaur World Live.
We all throughly enjoyed Dinosaur Wold Live and our three year old daughter is now not sure whether she prefers dinosaurs to unicorns, which is praise indeed. I tried discuss the realities of both creatures, but was firmly told by her big sisters to stop as it would break her heart if she though unicorns weren’t real. I think perhaps she needs to see more shows like Dinosaur World Live.
