On a recent holiday to Turkey we had interconnecting double rooms for us and the three girls. This is a brilliant option for a larger family and helps to ensure that we all get some more sleep.  It also means that we could sit on our balcony after the girls had gone to sleep. However interconnecting rooms rather than suites do create their own difficulties as my girls are now at the age where they can open their own front door and try to get out. At 4 and 5 I’m not entirely sure they would ever do this on purpose in the middle of the night but I do worry (and have worried in the past) that they would open that door instead of the toilet door in a sleepy state and find themselves on the wrong side of the door. Whilst I wouldn’t have worried about it where we were staying this time, there are also some places where I would be worried about someone opening the door from the other side.

About a year ago we were sent a product to review called the Easylock, and this holiday it was the answer to our concern. You fit the lock easily into a hotel door and it means it can’t be opened from the outside and without knowing how the Easylock works you can’t open it from the inside easily either. Hence we could open it but the girls couldn’t.

I did mention that I was sent this a year ago to review. I haven’t actually managed to review it before now as we either haven’t needed to use it, we have stayed in villas or tents, or it wouldn’t fit the doors (for example it didn’t fit on the doors on our cruise on Anthem of the Seas). However it definitely worked well for the standard hotel door.

Designed for the creators granddaughter who was travelling the world and he wanted her to be safe when she slept. It works just as well for little ones.

It’ll definitely be a go to travel item for us whilst the kids are younger, and maybe one to save for their university and travelling days to come.

NB: We were sent the Easylock to review, but all views are our own.

  1. This is a genius idea!!! Bizarrely, Paul and I have just been discussing the need for something like this as both our boys can now open locked doors and when we’re away and have two rooms, we each sleep with one of them. This is such a fab product. I can’t believe I haven’t heard to it before. Hotels should definitely keep a couple for families, particularly if they offer adjoining rooms.
