Today we visited the Cheshire Ice Cream Farm to take part in their Elf Adventure Challenge.  The premise is simple, they invite you to “Come and learn what it takes to be a Christmas Elf with fun, challenges and Christmas spirit for the whole family”

We had a slot at 10.40 and they ask you to arrive ten minutes before hand to sign in.  We probably started the experience at 10.45 and the whole adventure takes around 40 minutes.

The adventure starts with a little film about what is to come and then you are taken into a room to meet Pümpaå Elf for your first challenge.  You are asked to all sit on the floor, given a large box covered in lights and then as a family team you build a mecanno style robot, as the clock counts down.  The elves really help you get into the swing of things, even photo bombing!

There are a series of challenges as you move through 3 rooms including a reindeer race (where some of the reindeers definitely run quicker than others!).

The challenge finishes with a medal making challenge. None of it is too difficult for the older kids, or too hard for the parents if they are helping. It’s quite fast paced to get you through everything but does flow, the kids faces at times were worth going for too!

The slight downside for me was the price. At £8 a head including paying for each participating adult the cost really can add up, although a family ticket for 4 is available for £28 and therefore it would have cost us £36.  Tickets available here.

The obvious upside of  an activity based at the Ice Cream Farm is however the fantastic (and free) outdoor playground they upgraded last year. For more on the playground see our earlier review, it is also an excellent place to go in Winter as even though it is very cold on the plains down there it is significantly quieter and still as fun.  We just wrap up warm, these new merino wool t-shirts from Three Bags Full are superb, so very cute for this time of year and keep them extra warm when its cold but allow them to breathe when they go inside. Lily’s navy one is a personal favourite of mine.

My three LOVE the tree when it spits out snow (all year round) and they also adore the spinning chairs!

New Bobux Boots which we love!

Just as we were about to finish our ice creams (you have to regardless of the weather and my fave is Sticky Toffee Pudding) and leave Santa arrived at 1pm on his sleigh with his reindeer. Perfect end to the morning.
