When you tell people you are going camping with Eurocamp and then they see pictures of a Eurocamp 4 bed villa lodge – I don’t think you can really get away with calling it camping per se, but here’s our review of the 4 bed villa lodge on the La Croix du Vieux Pont site near Paris.
You can also take a look at our video of our time at La Croix du Vieux Pont Paris below and our ideas of what to do at La Croix du Vieux Pont if you decide to book a trip!
Outside space with a 4 Bedroom Villa Lodge at La Croix du Vieux Pont
This is what impressed me the moment we got to our Villa Lodge at La Croix du Vieux Pont – the space! The villa lodge sits in a huge plot with views across to the lake and in the sun it looks simply glorious.
There are sun loungers to relax on, meaning you can actually have some quieter time than the pools offer, and if you manage to get the one we got (ours was number 2), this was the view! You can book a lakeside view specifically, although the plot and the view you get will obviously vary.
What you can’t see on the photo above is that there was also room for 2, if not actually 3 cars in front of where I’ve taken the photo so you can see how large the plot was and how far away the other lodges were too.
The large deck with retractable awning (designed for sun and rain, albeit ours let the rain in) was perfect for large family dinners and then games nights and chatter in the evening.
We used the large gas bbq every evening that comes as standard in the Eurocamp 4 Bed Villa Lodge and often at lunchtime too, and it happily made enough food for the 14 of us, and made it quickly too. It was a great chance to teach the kids to cook too in a safe way, I love a gas bbq for that!
What type of rooms are in the 4 Bedroom Villa Lodge at La Croix du Vieux Pont?
There are 2 double bedrooms, and 2 bedrooms that sleep 3 each in single beds so you can sleep 10 people in the 4 Bedroom Villa Lodge at La Croix du Vieux Pont.
Duvets and pillows are included and all the beds (save for the pull out ones) were made on arrival.
One of the double bedrooms is downstairs next to a shower room, and the other three bedrooms are upstairs where there is also a toilet, and a family bathroom with a bath.
The double bedroom upstairs has a large double wardrobe and a balcony too which had lovely views of the lake, it would have been nice to have a couple of chairs up there so we could take advantage of it.
The mix of 3 separate toilet/bathroom rooms meant that it never really seemed to be an issue, even when 10 of us were getting ready to go somewhere.
The only downside to the bathrooms was the noise of the plumbing, filling a bath would keep kids awake until it finished and flushing a toilet was very loud indeed.
How many people can stay in the 4 Bedroom Villa Lodge at La Croix du Vieux Pont?
Technically you get 2 double bedrooms, and 2 bedrooms that sleep 3 each in single beds so you can sleep 10 people in the 4 Bedroom Villa Lodge at La Croix du Vieux Pont.
I say technically as I think that depends on the make up of your party and whether that is adults or kids. I would say it sleeps 4 adults happily and 6 small kids, or perhaps 8 adults at a push.
The reason for this is that the rooms with single beds in, had small pull out beds under the beds. One of those was under the bunk bed in the small bunk bed room and that didn’t fit in very happily. Fine for kids but wouldn’t have been for adults. The pull out beds were also not that comfortable and that came from very light 7 year olds.
As there was 14 of us (3 families) staying at La Croix du Vieux Pont, we had a caravan as well, the kids moved round a lot during the week so we often had a full 10 or just 7 or 8.
As a group we all ate at the Villa Lodge for most meals as with the inside table and the outside table on the deck you could seat all 14 of us comfortably.
Kitchen Facilities in the 4 Bedroom Villa Lodge at La Croix du Vieux Pont
The kitchen area is quite small for the number of people, although to address that we usually used the main dining room table to prepare food too. I also felt that we could have done with a slightly larger fridge too – you not only need somewhere to keep the food cold but also the booze too and we regularly ran out of space for both.
When we arrived there was quite a few things missing from the kitchen too but the Eurocamp team rectified that quickly. The only major issue we had was with the dishwasher that didn’t really work despite having the maintenance team out a couple of times to fix it. They did seem to admit that they were at the end of their useful life.
We only really used the hob whilst we were there as we cooked everything else on the gas bbq so I can’t comment on the usefulness or otherwise of the oven.
There was a large number of cupboards although our food did overspill into the dining area, and whilst it was nice the bin was out of the way in a large kitchen cupboard I think it would be helpful if they shelved it to give you even more space.
Downsides to the 4 Bedroom Villa Lodge at La Croix du Vieux Pont
It’s only fair to point out the downsides, as I’ve explained how they are set out and really the only downside I can mention is the noise. These lodges are squeaky and you can hear a pin drop if anyone moves. In the morning if you needed a wee the whole house was awake, so on the odd occasion I woke before the kids, I lay there until I heard someone else got up and woke up the house.
To be fair though this is the same whenever you have caravan I guess, I just think that when you have an upstairs you sometimes think it will be quieter. It wasn’t though – as there was basically enough space between the floorboards for the light to go through too!
Amusing listening to some of the kids conversations though when they didn’t think you were listening, although I imagine they would say the same about ours. There was definitely more than one occasion when they shouted at us to be quiet as we had put them to bed but we were being too noisy and they couldn’t sleep!
