The girls and I were super excited to be heading to the launch of the brand new Explorer Glamping accommodation at Chessington World of Adventures last weekend. As soon as the girls heard we were to be camping there were shrieks of excitement – this would be their first ever sleep over in a tent!
We arrived at around 5pm and were directed to the car park just opposite the Explorer Glamping entrance which is handy as it means not too far to carry bags!
We were greeted by helpful staff at the basecamp reception who helped with luggage and saw us into our fantastic safari tent. When I think tent I think of crouching down and climbing into a damp sleeping bag on nothing but a roll mat (oh lovely childhood memories) but the Explorer Glamping experience at Chessington puts the Glam into glamping; each tent comes with electricity and real actual proper beds!!
There is plenty of toilets and showering facilities located within the Explorer Glamping site and are all kept spotless, I know being brand new you would expect that but I noticed they were checked regularly to keep up to a high standard.
Once we’d explored our tent and got ourselves sorted we headed out to enjoy the entertainment Chessington had put on for the guests, there was nail painting, face painting, juggling, owls to meet and most importantly cupcakes and cocktails!
As part of the Explorer Glamping package guests have exclusive evening access to Wild Asia so the family can enjoy some of the rides without queues. Wild Asia also houses the outpost restaurant, a fully themed buffet which is where Explorer Glamping guests get to tuck into some delicious dishes – and we did just that.
The food was delicious and way beyond what you would expect from your usual buffet and this was before we even got started on the deserts. The girls loved getting stuck into the chocolate fountain.
Dinner was followed by a barn dance which was so much fun Lottie and I sat clapping along as the girls enjoyed some arts and crafts, before we knew it 9pm rolled around and we headed back to out tent for our sleep over.
They kindly provided a travel cot for Lottie to sleep in but of corse after precisely 30 seconds she wanted to jump into bed with me! I was a little concerned about the girls being cold as by this point it was pretty chilly and pouring with rain outside but we all slept comfortably with minimal disruption.
After a good night sleep we were all awake and the crack of dawn, big shock with my children!! Breakfast was served at the Explorers’ Outpost from 7:30-9am again it was a hot buffet with continental options and it was yummy!
Checkout of the Explorer Glamping site is 10am so just enough time to pop your bags back in the car before heading into the park and enjoying the rides and attractions.
My girls are a little bit small for most of the rides but we had fun looking around the zufari and spotting our favourite animals in the zoo.
Maisy has a lot of love for Meerkats at the moment so we spent a long time watching this little fella.
All in all we had a fantastic time, the girls loved there first camping experience – although they now have seriously high expectations for future camping expeditions!
Thank-you for having us Chessington we will certainly be back in the future.
This is a guest post by Amy of Everything Mummy. Amy was invited to Chessington to glamp with her family but all views are her own.
This looks like an idea break to take little people to! I’ve never been glamping but I’d love to try, especially if the food looks like this xXx
