Recently a friend of mine put a call out on the Mini Travellers – Your Reviews and Recommendations group, (please do ask to join if you’d like to) asking for any recommendations for campsites that take group bookings, ideally those that have a private space.
The brief in the initial request was somewhere for a big group camping weekend with 10-12 adults and around 15 kids. Somewhere that didn’t need them to be quiet and in this case somewhere South/South-West – although this blog post now covers the UK.
Lot of people came up with some great ideas so I thought I’d share them with you here.
Campsites that allow group bookings or Campsites that have a private space for large groups
Barn Farm, near Matlock, Derbyshire
A reader stayed at Barn Farm in Birchover near Matlock in Derbyshire a couple of summers ago. There was a large group of families there. 6 families, lots of kids so assumed campsite allow groups. Amusingly a Tesco delivery arrived with a van full of booze and food!! The group were pitched in a corner on their own but didn’t make loads of noise after 10.30pm shut down. Campsite is really lovely, and has its own festival in June. Worth a check out
Nantcol Waterfalls Campsite
A unique camping experience awaits you at the award winning Nantcol Waterfalls campsite. Nestled at the foot of the rugged Rhinog Mountain range and yet a mere 2 miles from Shell Island and it’s golden sandy beaches. Camp on 7 acres of flat ground literally a stone throw away from the river and waterfalls… they will place you in groups together if you request it. These can be a combination of tent/live in vehicle and glamping.
High Class Camping, Severn Valley
An ideal campsite for family groups their tents can be rented as a group. They offer individual accommodation with 4 beds in each tent. (With smaller beds for children a family of 5).
The site can accommodate up to 7 tents, each with room for 4 people on single beds or double/kingsize beds.
The showers and washrooms have electricity and hairdryers and the cooking facilities can cater for groups of up to 28. The site is ideal for family get togethers and sensible group gatherings.
They can recommend outside caterers if you need a night off the cooking. Buffets and hog roasts using the wood framed dining gazebo.
Penny from Parentshaped stayed here in 2018 with loads of mates from uni and all their kids and said it was amazing. http://www.highclasscamping.co.uk
Hale Farm, near Lewes
Hale Farm near Lewes takes large groups. Very few amenities, but 1m walk to pub, animals on site and clean bathrooms
The Original Hut Company in Bodiam, East Sussex
At the Original Hut Company you can camp or hire beautiful tin tabernacles that can be all set up and waiting for you on your arrival in one of their picturesque campsites. Their campsites offer wash huts with 2 loos and 2 piping hot showers, private fire pit per pitch and a covered seating area in case of any changes in the Great British weather! Groups of families or friends can be accommodated within the boundaries of their rules. If you require more than 5 pitches you are required to hire their Private camping area. If you are arranging a group event please contact them directly and they will make sure they have a suitable space for you all to camp together and that they can cater for your needs.
Wowo Campsite, Sussex
At Wowo one of the things they do best is provide a special setting for groups of families and friends (8 or more families), as well as class bookings for school year groups, or sports clubs. Your group will be allocated an area suitable to your number of tents/ people. At check-in they will advise you where to pitch. At your camp you will find a fire pit(s), trivets plus benches and if you are lucky one of their gigantic picnic tables. You can see their group bookings page here.
Eweleaze Farm, Dorset – Camping by the Sea
A reader cannot recommended Eweleaze Farm in Dorset enough, it’s amazing… festival atmosphere…only open for 4 weeks in August. They went with a group of 20 last year and were certainly not the smallest group!
Strawfields, North Devon
Strawfields in North Devon is an 8 acre small holding consisting of our farmhouse, two cottages, shepherd huts and a small rustic campsite.
A fantastic location, hidden away in the beautiful North Devon countryside, yet only minutes from the sea.
The breathtaking sandy surfing beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton, Croyde and Putsbourough are all within easy reach.
The small fishing harbour towns of Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth are close by, as are the many hidden coves to discover.
There is a public footpath running directly behind Strawfields across the fields to the local village of West Down,
which boasts a well stocked community village shop and a great local pub
They have two camping fields with everything you need for a great memorable holiday and you can hire the fields out for group trips.
You can read more about Strawfields in this blog post.
I’m sure there must be a lot more, please do let me know if you know of any!
