When we arrived, the staff on the desk were very helpful and explained what there was to see. We first went around the courtyard and saw the tea-room and restaurant, which looked very nice. There was a gift shop here too, selling some lovely items.

The twins were very excited to run around the gardens and so we explored the large area in front of the house first. The gardens are stunning, and the pathways so easy to walk around. With very few hills. The twins just loved it. They found a little house to explore, and loved playing hide and seek behind the large trees.
​They saw the ducks on the large pond, and found some toys on the lawn.

Next we went into the house, and looked around the impressive building. With an upstairs-downstairs feel, it is amazing to see the rooms as they would have been.
It does have a lot of stairs, and was a little busy, however we saw the children’s nursery as it would have been for children then – and Harry pointed to the train set! It was a little rushed in here for Dave and I, as the twins didn’t appreciate the history, and were getting a little tired, however we tried to take in as much as we could.
​Some local school children were baking cakes in the servants section, and this was fantastic! We had free cake and shortbread to munch on!

Finally the twins played in the natural play area wolf’s den, where you can build a den, go rope swinging, test your balance and more.

It’s fair to say that they both slept extremely well that night!! They were shattered!

Would we recommend it?

Oh yes! This is a superb place to visit if, like us, you have a family and need space for them to explore and be free. And it is great here for children. Although we didn’t spend much time in the house, it was really interesting to explore the building.

We will be joining the National Trust as a result of this visit and returning to Erddig again very soon.
