During our weekend away we booked onto the Family Den Building and Decorating at Center Parcs.
The information on the website says ‘Join in with our woodland adventure and build lasting memories with your family and friends’.
Facts:
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Age: 3 years plus
Price: £46.50 per family
You start by sitting down with your Den Master who tells you the 10 rules of the game and then you are encouraged to build the biggest den you can that is also waterproof. Team names must be made and displayed on the den and mainly fun must be had!
So off we set.
There was a few risky moments where they nearly took each others heads off with the large tree branches but overall at 5 and 6 they were able to carry lift and make the den with us, I think any younger and they would have mainly had to watch. So if you have a 3 year old who is part of a family of older children too then I’d say, yes get them to join in, but I wouldn’t recommend booking this for a family with just 3 and 4 years olds for example.
Much fun was had designing the flag for the top of the den and the name plates which now adorn the bus outside our house!
The kids also enjoyed playing in it, roasting pretend marshmallows and loved pretending that their den was waterproof when the den master poured water all over the top – it wasn’t – one of them got soaked!
So would I recommend this activity? It depends on you and your family. It’s a great activity to get you out and about in the woods together and is very inclusive, and we had a great deal of fun. It was also, comparatively to other Center Parcs activities cheaper for a family of 5 than other things. However we do den building a lot as we are National Trust members and this is the sort of thing they have at most of their properties. So for us we technically do this for free a few times a year.
Much fun however was had!
