The Foodies Festival takes place across 10 different locations from April through to September and claims to be ‘the UKs biggest celebration of food, drink and wellbeing.’

Since becoming a parent, I have learnt to appreciate the ‘finer’ things in life; good food, good drink and the occasional period of time away from the chaos of family life! When we were asked to review the Foodies Festival at Tatton Park, I was only too happy to oblige!

Harnessing the companionship of another Mummy, we set off for the day…the first error we made related to footwear! Tatton Park has masses of fields and grassland and yet, in our excitement of escaping for the day, we had both worn sandals! Whoops! The whole thing takes place outside and although there are a couple of marquees, there isn’t much shelter on site so a brolly and appropriate footwear are a must!

Parking was virtually next to the site, which was great… we quickly made our way into the festival and as we were VIP’s for the day, headed to the VIP tent for our first coffee (of many!) of the day and our glass of bubbly which came with the VIP pass…VIP passes are something I have always avoided in the past, considering them a little excessive, however, I have to say that this VIP pass seemed to provide excellent value for money…As well as our glass of Prosecco, we had unlimited access to the VIP tent (excellent during a showery day!) and unlimited tea, coffee and snacks for the day…we also had VIP seats for our choice of cooking demo which was fantastic.

After our initial ‘fuelling’ in the VIP tent, we methodically made our way around the festival and explored all the providers on offer. There were lots of free samples on offer as well as new foods and drinks to try. We actually walked around the site several times which initially had seemed small but was deceptive as we found something different that we had missed each time we walked round…

We snacked our way through the morning and sampled lots of delights – it’s worth noting that there were lots of alcoholic samples on offer so don’t do what I did and be designated driver! We then took our seats in the Marquee to watch our chosen demonstration from the current Bake Off champion, Candice Brown. I have to say, this was really quite entertaining and we felt like we had gained an insight into Candice as well as learnt a new recipe!

Initially, we did think the festival was small, but we found there was more than enough to entertain us for the day and although we were there for a bit of ‘escape’ time, there were plenty of families there and I would happily take along my family next year. It’s worth checking out their website to see if there is an event near you…a great day out for all!
