I was recently asked by Alpharooms if I would like to share a holiday confession! There were several other people who participated in this campaign and you can see all the Alpharoom Holiday Confessions here.  My confession is related to travelling as a family of 5.  It’s a subject that I feel quite passionate about so if you have stayed in a hotel that comfortably sleeps 5 in a room then I would love you to get in touch for our up and coming feature.  I have some favourites already like the wonderful Trfeddian Hotel in Aberdovey and Chalet Hotel Aiguille in Tignes but would love to know about more.

Our confession:

We had identical twin girls when my eldest daughter was 13-months-old! Yes that’s right, three little girls under 13 months. We were tired, it was expensive, we were tired (yes it does bear repeating), it was exhausting and we really needed a holiday but for the first couple of years we didn’t travel much for the reasons you can imagine!

However, when we started to travel we came up against the same problem time and time again. “No Madam I’m afraid you can only have four people in that room; no, I’m sorry it’s a health and safety issue Madam; I’m sorry you’ll have to book another room!” “No Madam, I’m sorry that villa is only for four people not five.” It really annoyed me, I mean they were two-years-old and they could even sleep in the same travel cot! Health & Safety (?!?). Chance to make us book a bigger room perchance?

So having vowed that we wouldn’t really dress the twins in the same clothes, vowing that we would make sure that they had their own separate style and identity, we decided to start dressing them in the same clothes when we were travelling. Why? So that we could sleep five in the same room if we needed to without booking another room. We could creep in…

To be fair this mostly worked quite well. They are so tiny and share the same bed that most of the time it hasn’t really mattered to anyone at all. However, one morning a man on reception thought he had seen three children.

“Madam”, he said, “Have I just seen another child?”
“Another child?”, I said, “No I’m sure you didn’t see another child, maybe just the same child who had popped out to see her Daddy?”

I managed to keep a straight face as he looked confused and second guessed himself. Later, I paid the bill and then just as we were leaving the two little ones, dressed in the same outfits ran back into reception with the same big smile and shouted “We are twins”. The look on my face was priceless. I quickly hurried them out and we haven’t been back there again!
