Is it worth visiting The Lost Gardens of Heligan in the rain with Kids? The overwhelming answer to this question is yes. Yes it is worth visiting The Lost Gardens of Heligan in the rain with Kids?
You need the right clothes on and you need to enjoy being outside, but we had a fun 3 hours there on a wet January day with three 5 year olds and a 2 year old.
Natural Playground
It’s a huge natural playground. There are gardens, secret passage ways, woodland walks and farmland to run around. There are cute sheep, noisy pigs and lots of logs to play on too. There are seasonal trails however we didn’t use one.
Quiet
It is significantly quieter visiting The Lost Gardens of Heligan in the rain with kids than at any other time. Most people won’t go, so if you do, you will inevitably have far far more space. For kids running around they can do this without getting lost in a sea of people.
Rope Bridge
The rope bridge is still useable at The Lost Gardens of Heligan in the rain with kids you just have to be more careful. It is also a little more sheltered from the rain by the trees anyway. The rope bridge is just off a wooden path. I saw a few signs that said if you are waiting here you will have a 30/45 minute wait to cross the bridge. We were literally the only people in the jungle (admittedly it was January) so had unlimited access to the bridge and no wait!
Adventure Playground
You can use all of this in the The Lost Gardens of Heligan in the rain with kids and if you get to that part at lunchtime like we did, there is a undercover area under the slide that fits 3 x 5 year olds so they can eat their lunch out of the rain. You parents may have to stand outside but then apparently it matters not if our sandwiches get wet!
Natural Installations
Whatever the weather the natural installations are a sight to behold and fascinating for kids and adults alike. I was very taken by the Giants Head but the kids seemed to pause longer at the Sleeping Mud Maid. It is fairly impossible to see the Grey Lady from my photos but I imagine in Spring with flowers she is a little more striking.

These gardens are top of my list of places to visit in Cornwall – they look fantastic. I like your idea of visiting when the weather’s not so good – definitely makes for better photographs when it’s quieter 😀
That rope bridge looks rather scary though!
