When it is raining and miserable and cold, you need to think outside the box when it comes to days out.  If you are in the North West I have recommended Chester Zoo for rainy days and the Ice Cream Farm is definitely one to consider, but sometimes you just need somewhere to go for an hour.

I’m a huge fan of visiting Art Galleries with the Kids and whilst you don’t often get to appreciate all the Art on offer, they are really quite good places for kids to be for an hour or so, particularly if like Lady Lever Art Gallery or Walker Art Gallery they have really thought about how to entertain the kids and make you feel welcome.

On Monday (a wet cold day) we went to Lady Lever Art Gallery notionally because they were holding a SureStart event between 10 and 12 in the Activity Rooms. Now the fact that the gallery has Activity Rooms is a good start. The activity rooms at Lady Lever are jam packed with fancy dress books and puzzles, and they often have additional craft sessions on, so just check out their website.

We did some painting and then we made our way into the main museum (so I could see the Putting on the Glitz exhibition).

In the main museum there is an area with lots of notes stuck on the wall, more jigsaws and some fancy dress. The museum have been asking people what they would like to see in the newly renovated museum and what sort of things they would enjoy. These are varied and we spent a really long time reading out what people wanted to see in the new museum.

I finally made it to the exhibition and the girls loved looking at all the pretty dresses. We imagined what they were doing when they were wearing them and had a some really good fun.

  1. I still haven’t been to the Lady Lever, it is only 10 minutes from my Nana’s house and still forget to go. Honestly I never thought of it as being set up for kids as the other galleries and museums but I think we may stop off on our way now, I would love to see that clothes exhibition! xx
