Legally Blonde The Musical starring Rita Simons as Paulette Bonafonte, Lucie Jones as Elle Woods and Bill Ward as Professor Callahan arrived at the Liverpool Empire this week until Saturday 9th June and I can highly recommend you book tickets to go and see it.

The smash hit Broadway and West End Musical Legally Blonde is based on the best loved movie (from 2001 if you can believe that) and follows beautiful and popular Delta Nu soriety sister Elle Woods who loves to be pampered and is passionate about pink.

Legally Blonde The Musical Review

When she is dumped by her boyfriend Warner Huntington III for a more serious girlfriend she puts down the credit cards and picks up the books. Packing up her trusty pooch, Bruiser (who brought out all the coos), she bags herself a place at the prestigious Harvard Law School to try and win him back. With the support of her new friends she learns that you can be both smart and fashionable.

It’s a cheesy plot line (and the musical version hams it up even more than the film if that was possible) and I absolutely LOVED it.

Personal favourite scenes and songs included the absolutely hilarious ‘There! Right There!’ which sees a jury tackle that age-old problem of determining whether a guy is gay or just simply ‘European” during the climax of the legal trial of Brooke Wyndham played by Helen Petrovna. It had everyone around me laughing out loud, many with tears in their eyes.  Speaking of Helena Petronova her skipping and singing ability whilst performing ‘Whip Into Shape’,  an insanely energetic skipping routine, was quite simply extraordinary.  Complete body envy and amazement about how such a performance was possible.

The ‘Oh my God you guys’ – song will have you rushing home to practice your ‘bend and snap’ – and make you wonder why you never used the move before (well if I’m honest it didn’t I can’t imagine me pulling that off!)

I loved Lucie Jones (Eurovision UK representative 2017, Rent, Les Miserables, Ghost, We Will Rock You) as Elle too. She combines beauty with phenomenal singing and she has fantastic comedic timing too which gives life to the role just like Reese Witherspoon did in the film.

Legally Blonde is charming, witty and extremely polished.  It’s one of the most fun musicals I’ve seen in a long time. Give it a go you won’t regret it.

Tickets available for the Liverpool Empire this week until Saturday 9th June 2018 here.
