Here is our review of the Luxury Lodges at Sandybrook Country Park in the Peak District
Sandybrook Country Park is an award winning 5* holiday park in the Peak District. It has 65 luxury lodges, some with hot tubs like ours. It’s literally just outside the market town of Ashbourne, and if there was slightly better pavements you could easily walk into Ashbourne!
Sandybrook Country Park is a small and friendly holiday park, with an indoor swimming pool, toddler play area, outdoor playground, mini golf, onsite activities and a small woodland walk. It is also in an ideal location for CBeebies Land at Alton Towers, National Trust properties, the stepping stones at Dovedale and various market towns like Bakewell.
We made a little video of our time at Sandybrook Country Park, let me know what you think!
We stayed at the sister property Darwin Forest Country Park last year, and you can read our review here – but which did we prefer?
Well there are pros and cons of both to be honest!
Both have woodland walks like the first picture, but we did love the one at Darwin as it is significantly bigger (second photo below). If the woodland walks are what appeal to you then I’d say choose Darwin
Sandybrook Country Park is smaller generally though than Darwin so better if you like less people around.
The swimming pool at Sandybrook is being renovated in January 2018 so if you’re visiting after that it will be brand new. Again it is smaller than at Darwin but I really liked the size and if you visit in the Summer there are bi-fold doors to the outside.
Both places have a country pub on site but Sandybrook Country Park has a gin bar!
There seemed to be more activities on offer at Darwin Park but this makes sense due to the economies of scale.
Both are quieter than Center Parcs and I enjoy the flexibility having the car parked outside the lodge brings.
Darwin is flatter and easier for scooting and biking!
Having read those points back it sounds as though we didn’t have a good time at Sandybrook but we really did. We loved the quiet and the peace and the relaxation. We loved that we didn’t do much but that we did enough. We loved our cosy lodge and the fact that we didn’t really do anything. It was perfect for a quiet week which is exactly what we wanted!
Thanks to Sandybrook Country Park for inviting us to be their guests.
