The conversation went like this.
Me to Hubby: I think I might like to apply to be a Mark Warner Ambassador? #MarkWarnerMum
Girls: (We naturally never have a conversation ourselves!): What is that Mummy?
Me: It’s someone who goes on a ski holiday or a summer holiday and then tells other people about it.
Girls: Don’t you do that already Mummy (?!?) Skiing is only for Daddies isn’t it Mummy! It’s not for little girls.
Well obviously it isn’t just for Daddies, but as Hubby does sometimes get away on a ski weekend with the lads and I have never actually been skiing I can see why they think that.  I tried to explain that it really isn’t just for Daddies, and that lots of families go skiing every year and love it.  I showed them the website and the pictures. I told them all about ski school and Mini Club and exciting cable car rides. I tried to explain that once they had had lessons, everyone can go skiing in the snow, but they didn’t really understand how it all worked. So we tried a bit harder. If you want to go skiing you need some skis so we decided to try and make some.
I’m not really very good at craft. I like the idea of it, but I’m not really very good when it comes to making things look like they are supposed to, but we tried. More importantly the girls had a great time.
But then they wanted to use them, they wanted to actually ski.
And this is where we found them!!
We had a fantastic day creating this video and would love to take them skiing on actual snow!
So why would this be our perfect family holiday? It is such a fantastic family holiday because we would all be doing something together. Sharing the same experiences. We would be getting dressed in hats, gloves, jackets and salopettes together. Crunching through the early morning icy snow to the cable car together. Going to our ski school and Mini Club then learning to ski together. Laughing at each other wobbling about and falling over together. Maybe shed a few tears together as we pick ourselves up and shake the snow off us.  Warming our cold hands on hot drinks together.  Watching our breath chill on the cold fresh air as we stand nervously at the top of the green run together.
And of course proving to the girls that everyone can ski. Not just Daddy!
When considering a holiday, a day out with the kids or things to do in a new area, why not try our search function, click here to try it.
What a great post! Looks like the girls had so much fun making their own skis and trying it out – which is so much better than just looking at photos.
They are just the right age to start skiing – no fear and low centre of gravity!
And the ‘together’ bit made me cry a bit – it’s exactly what holidays are about in this silly crazy world we live in x
just back from Erasure ready to start another week! x
So cute!!!
Lots of luck – hoping that the dreams to ski on real snow come true for the girls.
I love this!! What fun making skis looks! Oh…and about those skiing weekends…I reckon mummies can do them too. Just saying
I know what you’re saying Nikki!
This is BRILLIANT! I love your girls so much. How funny and cute they are. You just have to win. I would love to see your photo’s and more videos!! Good luck guys. Jess xx
Haha, Mark Warner – You HAVE to send these girls skiiing… in proper snow!! 🙂
Brilliant post, Karen. xx
thanks lovely. fingers crossed.
Brilliant! I hope you’ll be taking the girls’ skis with you when you go! I have never been skiing either but it’s definitely not just for daddies, I’m sure they would love it x
do you think the airline would carry them for free!
what a fun post, I love it good lucky Karen xx
Such a brilliant idea! Great blog x
Looks like a fabulous day, if the holiday is this much fun it’s one for us all to try!
Hopefully you will get to have your skiing holiday and the girls will love it. Skiing definitely isn’t just for daddy!!
What a fabulous blog. The whole family obviously had a great time producing it. A really entertaining read. I hope you get to actually go skiing and good luck with your application.
They are so cute!! I’d love to take my boys skiing but I think J’s still a bit little at 20months!!! Next year though…. Who knows!
thank you Clare
This looks like a great way to entertain the troops! Love the ideas and reviews on this site, thanks 🙂
A great article, love the videos. A ski holiday sounds superb! It’ll be great for the children to learn now before they understand what actual fear is. I’m far too much like Bridget Jones to be a skier, although off piste activities a more my cup of tea. I love the site and think you’ll make a fantastic ambassador.
thanks so much for taking the time to comment.
What a great idea and the girls look so excited. They are a perfect age for beginning to learn. Just 3 weeks until we go. Jemima thinks she is going to have a go but not sure La Tania is ready for her – think sub 2 1/2 is slightly too young… I’m sure she’ll prove me wrong!! good luck with the competition! Xx
Fab- what a fun day!! great blog!!!
if you don’t win then I’ll be super shocked. This is a brilliant post and so much effort has gone towards it, although looks like everyone had fun. I want to make a set of ski’s for the girls. Your children are beautiful. Such a lovely happy family post. Xxx
ah thanks Kat very lovely of you to say so!
This looks amazing!! Going to have to give this a try with my 3! Xx
wow!!!!!!! I love this so much. Looks so much fun. You certainly are creative Karen!!! You best win you deserve to xx
Love this – the girls will love skiing and they are just the right age to learn. I wish I went when I was a child as you have no fear and when you see the French kids (some of them tiny tots!) wizzing past they put me and my snow plough to shame!!
What a great post. You would be a fab ambassador & the girls would be too. X
Well it sounds to me like poor Daddy is being picked on!
I know of another family (of Welsh descent) who are on the second phase of preferential ski trip allocation. It transpires that once “mini” travellers grow up to become teenagers, poor Daddy takes a back seat and is left behind as children escape to the pistes – parentless!
I propose a full double family “mini/teenage” expedition with mummies & daddies in tow to the snow. What do you think?
absolutely your boys can help my girls – game on!
Fantastic I’m now inspired to go as a family as the boys think it’s a daddy sport as well…..
Hilarious, I’d love to see them ski for real. I hope they all get to go real soon. Brilliant blog 🙂
Great pictures and videos!!
Awesome! A great article and the videos are really great. Can’t wait to see you guys skiing for real soon!
thank you, it would be fab wouldn’t it!
BRILLIANT!!! Karen, this is a fantastic post. Love you daughters – “I’m painting my skis rainbow” and the ski Sunday montage looks so much fun!! Good luck honey, you deserve to win xxxx
thanks Heledd! We loved doing it.
I LOVE this, your girls look so excited! What a cute idea and I really hope that you get to take them skiing after this, they would be naturals of course 🙂 xx
We are seriously hoping that you manage to persuade Hubby to take you all skiing, and that it’s with Mark Warner, as we would love to see your pictures, videos and review – let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!
Great idea and blog… just wish I had time to do things like this with my kids!!!!
What a lovely idea! Having worked a ski season myself I love the idea of getting kids involved this way. Lve readn yor posts for idea. Will look forward to hearing how you get on with the trip and how you find Mark Warner.
This is absolutely wonderful. The girls look so happy and pleased with themselves. Magical!!
What could be cuter than the sight of these three bombing down the slopes!
That looks like great fun in the planning. Imagine how enjoyable the holiday would be. Can I come? What a fabulous family!
Oh, BRILLIANT! Love this. How great are your skis? Daddy really did a good job of making them and the girls decorating them. They already look like pros in the video!
This is bloody brilliant!!! Really made me laugh. Well done lovely! xxxxx
ah thank you xx
Congratulations – fantastic post!
Wow, what an amazing post! So creative and – how cool are you letting your kids ski on the cooker ! X
