Last year I spent one hour in the Louvre in Paris, so this is a post about whether it was worth it?

Well I suppose I should say that I’d never intended to just spend one hour in the Louvre. We had woken early with the intention of spending the full morning in the Louvre before heading back to the airport at lunchtime for our flight home.  We got there at 8.30 so we could get in promptly when it opened at 9am and having been let into the entrance to buy our ticket we stood in line and waited, then sat and waited, and time went on and on. We had a great view of the stunning architecture of the Louvre but nothing else. No-one was being let in!

I say we, I was in Paris for the Efluent conference and that morning I was with Laura from Tired Mummy of Two and Kaye of K Elizabeth.  The hotel we had stayed in was fine but you should take a look at this post about the best hotels in Paris for more recommendations. We had struggled to open our eyes after a fun evening the night before so a morning sitting on the floor in the Louvre was not really what we envisaged. However when we were finally let in we decided not to follow all the crowds to the Mona Lisa, hoping they would have dispersed a little before we got there and instead enjoyed the Egyptian exhibits practically to ourselves as everyone jostled for space at the Mona Lisa.

After visiting the Egyptian exhibition the crowds had dispersed a little and we decided to follow a little of the Da Vinci Code trail which had been our intention originally. The Louvre has a walk through the museum dedicated to the Dan Brown book and we tried to do some of it. You can find the Da Vinci Code trail here.and a picture below that appeared in the film!

We did find and just about see the Mona Lisa but I don’t have a useful photo, well I did but it was basically just a see of faces. Whenever you visit the Louvre I understand actually seeing the Mona Lisa up close is pretty tricky to do.

After that it was time to leave and head back to the airport. It wasn’t the most fruitful museum visit I’ve ever had but we certainly made the most of our hour in the Louvre.

If that’s all you have, then I say go for it and maybe hunt out a trail on the Louvre’s website so it can take you round the bits you want to see without you getting lost! It’s huge!
