City breaks can be off putting for parents of young children. The traffic, the queues, the difficulty of navigating them with baby paraphernalia; but in our experience city breaks can be the most memorable and fun holidays with children.
Paris is an incredible city. Don’t put off visiting it ‘til your children are older – do it now. Parisians love children and will welcome you with open arms.
But still, Paris is large, the top sights are spread out, the language is different and it’s a new place to navigate. That’s where Vedettes de Paris Boat Tours comes in.
Vedettes de Paris do a family cruise in English. The 60 minute cruise starts at the base of the Eiffel Tower and takes you on a stunning journey up the Seine river past top sights such as the Louvre Museum and Notre Dame.
It takes the stress and exhaustion out of using the metro to get to the different sights, and offers a completely different viewpoint of the city.
It is a stunning journey, which is made even more enjoyable by the tour guide sharing facts about which fascinate children. Did you know a crocodile was found in the sewers of Paris? It still lives in a zoo today and is an impressive 2.5 metres long!
There is inside and outside seating on the boat. We opted for inside as it was nippy outside, but it’s lovely to have the flexibility to go to the upper deck to get a panoramic view of the amazing architecture. Inside there is a bar where you can order drinks and snacks to enjoy during the cruise. There is a toilet on board which was spacious and clean.
The family cruise runs twice a day on weekends and school holidays. There are other tours not aimed at families, which we can’t comment on, but the tour guide was conscious of the presence of children and included facts aimed at them and engaged them through questions, so we’d definitely recommend booking on to one of the family specific tours.
