National Trust Fountains Abbey, Ripon

Story time with Father Christmas

Unfortunately, Father Christmas will not be visiting Fountains this year.

If you’re looking for a lovely local Father Christmas storytime event why not try a visit to Beningbrough Hall. The man himself will be sharing a brand new tale, Musical Mayhem, in the Victorian laundry. Join a small group for stories, list checking and gifts.

Santa at Beningbrough Hall

The man in red is visiting Beningbrough once more to rest and recharge ahead of his busy night on Christmas Eve. He loves welcoming visitors and sharing stories of his adventures during the busy build-up to Christmas.

Take a seat in the Victorian laundry for thirty minutes to hear first-hand tales of music, magical elves and mishaps along the way. He’s such a generous man and has told us he’ll bring a few sacks of gifts for the children.

There will be time for each child to have a chat and, if you’d like to, bring a letter to Father Christmas on the day. He loves to read what you’ve been up to and all the kind things you’ve done through the year.

The event runs over the first three weekends in December: Saturdays and Sundays 3–4; 10–11; and 17–18.

Booking essential 01904 472014.  £10 per child and one adult plus normal admission charges.  nationaltrust.org.uk/beningbrough-hall

Enchanting Evenings at Castle Howard

Christmas at the Castle Howard with Father Christmas and Friends. An Immersive theatre experience for families within the Main House

This Christmas Mr & Mrs Claus have taken up residence at Castle Howard as they make final preparations for the big day, and you are invited to join them!

They’ll need a little of your help, a lot of your love and as much festive cheer as you can muster. There’ll be a present or two that need sorting, some reindeers that need preparing, and a little magic that needs sprinkling to ensure Christmas happens without a hitch this year.

Each child will be given a gift box to take away, and we are delighted to be partnering with local crafting company ‘Forest, Craft and Play’, who have designed and produced gorgeous, sustainable, eco friendly and very magical gifts to accompany this year’s Father Christmas experiences.

Christmas experiences don’t come more magical than this! Set in private rooms within the grandeur of Castle Howard, your ticket to see Father Christmas and Friends also includes a visit to ‘Into The Woods; A Fairytale Christmas’, a series of theatrical installations throughout the Main House.

Please select your preferred date & time from the Calendar, the time slot chosen should be for the time you would like to attend the experience with Father Christmas and Friends. You will be able to enter the Gardens & Grounds at your leisure from 10am.

Float to Santa’s secret grotto

Join Santa for a marvellously magical festive cruise on the River Ouse at Christmas!

You might think that Santa is far too busy to drop in to York to see all the good boys and girls, but you’d be wrong! Santa is a big fan of City Cruises (we’re his favourite) and loves coming to see us every year to spread festive cheer!

You’ll be welcomed into Santa’s Grotto at our Boatyard, hidden underneath the beautiful Lendal Bridge in the centre of York. As you enter, your Captain will check that children are on the special VIP guestlist we receive from Lapland.

Don’t worry if you are bringing a pushchair, you’ll be able to park it in the safety of our Reindeer Pen! Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and, of course, Rudolph – are all away on business with Santa.

Once on board, you’ll be greeted warmly by one of Santa’s good friends, Mary Christmas or Ernie/Ellie the Elf, who will show you to your reserved seating, ready for our magical departure! Santa doesn’t let us say too much more about what happens next, as that would spoil the magic, but we can guarantee that Santa Claus himself will find his way aboard and the whole family will have the most wonderful time on board – there’s a reason why families come back year after year to experience this truly fabulous festive treat, after all…
