The Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton is a conveniently located venue with plenty of free parking around. It is modern, warm and comfortable and often offers very reasonably priced tickets to family shows. It is also easy to combine a family day out to the theatre there with a trip to the children’s funfair, the arcades or some lunch at one of the nearby eateries such as Pizza Express, Prezzo or Costa Coffee.

My daughter and I were in New Brighton to see “Pongo’s Party”, a family production featuring the voices of CBeebies Justin Fletcher and Nicole Davies. The promotional material says it is suitable for 2-7 year olds but in truth I was glad that my 6 year old wasn’t with us as it would have been too young for her tastes.

The premise of the show is that it is Pongo the Pig’s birthday.  He is looking forward to a fantastic party… but the trouble is, nobody seems to remember!  Molly-Moo is making a mess baking, Sheena is rehearsing with her band and Sally is in the middle of decorating – whatever can they be up to?

Songs include: Old MacDonald Had A Farm, The Hokey Cokey, Wheels On The Bus, The Grand Old Duke Of York, Dingle Dangle Scarecrow, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, I Am The Music Man and many more!

My 4 year old, a CBeebies fan, was very much in her element and joined in with all of the songs, dancing and even the “pass the parcel” game which saw 2 huge wrapped parcels passed around the audience. She was also happily entertained with her magazine and animal face mask which I bought for £2 before the performance.

In summary it was a lovely show for a couple of hours entertainment on a Sunday.

Forthcoming events at the theatre include:  Count Duckula, Jospeh and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and everybody’s favourite Peppa Pig. Well worth a visit!
