Yesterday we visited Porth Ceriad to see if we could find some better rock pooling. A couple visiting the farm we are staying at Gwynfryn Farm recommended the beach to us as a real find. Peaceful with stunning scenery. They did say it was a little difficult to find, and after driving up quite a lot of the wrong country lanes (that were very thin, and praying I didn’t meet anyone coming the other way) I have to agree.
How to find Porth Ceriad
You drive through Abersoch and then take a left just before a gate with a road sign and a sticker on!!! This is in fact exactly what you do (you don’t have to drive up all the other country lanes) but the said sticker is a little difficult to see so we did pass it the first time!
After you turn down the ‘secret’ road you need to have £3 ( 3 £1 coins) for the barrier which lets you drive along into the car park at the top of the steps. You can also access the Welsh Coastal Path at this point too. We drove through the barrier and parked the car in a field at the top of a very steep hill (me wondering if it was going to topple into the sea!).
It was then a 15 minute walk down a path and some steps. The view was beautiful. Unfortunately my phone had been dropped in some water that morning (kids!) so my photos haven’t all worked out but you can get the idea from these.
The beach was practically deserted. There was only one other family on the beach when we arrived and a couple at the far end fishing. Some girls arrived to body board whilst we were there and a few other people arrived a bit later on, but it was incredibly quiet. For us with our Mini Travellers it was probably a little too off the beaten path as when they decided thy had had enough it was quite a stroll back to the car. Also as we are visiting in September the rest of the beaches haven’t been too busy anyway.
But I can imagine in August if you are looking for a bit of beach without too many others on it, Porth Ceriad is worth a hunt for.

Looks like a beautiful beach and always good to know where to find a quieter one in the summer months although as you say perhaps a little too out of the way for little ones. Sounds like it was lovely whilst you were there though 🙂

I love beaches like this, it feels such a great find and you miss the crowds too. We have somewhere very similar close to us and also call it the secret beach. The walk down is all part of the adventure. Thank you for sharing your beach find on country Kids.

What an amazing beach and I was so glad I clicked on your photo as we live in Cardiff and visit the Gower beaches. Our favourite is Oxwich Bay, lovely and clean and we get to forgage for mussels on the rocks at the edge of the beach also.
We will visting your beach I think, great directions so thank you for sharing.
