Description
This brand new book “The Little Museum” is the first in The Extraordinary Travellers Series created by Karen Beddow of Mini Travellers, the multi award winning family travel blog with over 60,000 monthly views and Lyndsay Macaulay an education consultant with over a decade of experience working both in schools, colleges and schools publishing.
The idea for the “Extraordinary Travellers.” book series came about during the author’s many family discussions on trains planes and automobiles during family holidays.
Karen says “Getting to know the places you are visiting has always been important to us but what was so inspiring was that when we were travelling the girls had so many questions. Why do they say this, where is that, what are they doing, how do they do that etc etc”
“As regular travellers we had a lot of the answers but all we had shown the girls before we went away was a couple of You-Tube videos and a tourism booklet.
We knew there had to be a better way to excite and inform children about where they were going but also to entertain them on the journey.” Hence the idea for the Extraordinary Travellers series was born.
We hope that the “Extraordinary Travellers” series will educate, inspire and entertain the children of those parents who love to travel, go on holiday or parents who just want to teach their kids more about the world and inspire them to understand it.

I really enjoyed reading this story as it involves adventure and magic. I learned loads of new French phrases because the story has in French vocabulary in it. I like the way the story alternates between the villains and the good guys so you get both perspectives. My favourite character is the Chief of Police because she is good at her job.

A fast paced and fun adventure that children will be sure to enjoy. Plus it’s educational too! Me and the kids really enjoyed reading this story together.

Our seven year old is loving this book. He’s just started doing French at school (Year 3) and is excited to be learning some new French words as he reads and learning new facts about France. It’s a fab story and really well written. Would thoroughly recommend.

A Review of the Little Museum by Phoebe Diggle (Aged Nine)
Are you ready to go with Lucy and Tom throughout France, meet Sylvie Argent and discover what happened to Athena Strongs’ inventions? The Little Museum is a great book for children aged 8-11, is full of mystery and is so educational. I love how it teaches you the French language, takes you to famous places, buildings and sports events around France.
In my opinion, the best bit of the book is the part which includes the Tour De France. You can understand what’s going on easily, plus it has a brilliant ending. If you like adventure, then I would recommend this book to you!

My daughter is only 4, but she has really enjoyed engaging with the mystery and excitement of the story and predicting what could come next. She loves learning new words and thinks her new French words are “very fancy.” Apparently I need to get a holiday to Paris booked soon so she can practice her new language skills. Love it.

My 6 year old daughter and I loved this book it was full of adventure and we talked about the characters and the adventures in the story. Lucy asked if there were more book available?! Lucy attended after school French club and with myself and grandparents able to speak French we loved going through the phrases with her. It’s got a bit of everything in there for children and I secretly enjoyed reading it too, trying not to read ahead of my daughter!

My two adventurous boys (aged 5 and 6) absolutely LOVED this book. I read it to them as a bedtime story over the course of a week, and we all had so much fun learning how to pronounce the French phrases – makes it more engaging than a regular book. And the story line is just brilliant – various French icons disappearing and learning a bit of history along the way. We cannot wait to read more from this series!

Poppy (aged 8) and I read the book together and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a great adventure/mystery storyline that keeps you wanting to read more. We love the little bits of French throughout the book, especially as we have French cousins, its good to keep it fresh in the mind.
Josh (aged 10) is currently reading it now and really enjoying it. Nice to have books that are suitable for both boys and girls. Also looking forward to reading it with my 4-year-old once Josh has finished it.
Looking forward to the second story

I bought this for my daughter (7) who adores reading.
The Little Museum really captivated her and she has read it a few times now. It managed to combine a few of the things she loves – adventure and excitement, mystery, travel and new language. We can not wait for more in the series!!!
We highly recommend this book and have bought an extra two copies for some upcoming class birthdays.

Highly recommended. I am reading this book to my 6 year old boy, he is loving it. We’re onto chapter 6, lovely creative and interesting characters (i.e. for kids) with interweaving chapters that are building up very nicely now, full of suspense and intrigue, I am hooked too! My boy is enjoying learning (without him realising importantly) about France, French phrases and pronunciation too. The Little Museum generates exciting talk about travel and exploration with your kids and of course when will Covid be over, so you can do it! Perfect Xmas present for kids.

I really enjoyed this book. Loved the way it jumped from character to character to build up the story and suspense.
Liked the humour of the French pronunciations, and the simplicity of its story telling, all about the adventure not getting bogged down with detail which kept up the excitement and pace of the book.
I also liked the illustrations and layout of the pages, made it very easy to read and something that my daughter will enjoy as well.

Thanks so much for your kind comments Mel, really appreciate all that feedback

We absolutely LOVED this book! Growing up I enjoyed reading adventure books and this was such a refreshing find. My daughter is 8 and we read it together, but she also found it really accessible to read on her own – the text is interspersed with just enough illustrations, little asides to explain the French phrases used, in easy chatty tones, and different size fonts to make it look attractive to a child to read.
The plot was brilliant – complicated enough to keep you intrigued, but not too much to lose a young readers’ attention. We can’t wait for the next one!
