Gibraltar Farm, is a traditional family run working farm situated in the heart of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and views of Morecambe Bay.

The campsite comprises areas of ancient woodland and open grassland and was voted (by The Daily Telegraph) as the best coastal campsite in the Northwest – so does it live up to it’s claim.

Location

The location is really what Gibraltar Farm Campsite is all about. The view of Morecambe Bay is quite simply breathtaking. At about 20 minutes off the M6, perhaps less, it’s a perfect spot for a weekend or longer visit, or to stop at en route up North or down South.

Who did we stay with at Gibraltar Farm Campsite with?

We booked Gibraltar Farm campsite for a Group Camping trip with two other families. You set up your tent wherever there is space and as we arrived on a very very wet weekend in late May, we had more than enough space for 3 cars, 3 tents, and a very large Coleman Event Shelter too.

Is Gibraltar Farm Campsite suitable for kids?

Yes ours between 9 and 13 had a ball, although when we visited there wasn’t many other children around.

It also felt a little ‘rule’ heavy. Some of the rules were definitely fair enough – don’t climb on dry stone walls etc, but others about number of children in the toilets seemed a little off. No ball games or kites around caravans or tents also seemed overly prescriptive.

Covid Friendly?

Whilst I’m hoping to be able to delete this section soon. Yes this campsite is Covid friendly. The toilets are cleaned very thoroughly every day and had gel and soap is provided. There are also clean showers and sinks that were also spotless. The ‘rules’ around not cleaning your teeth in the toilets did however feel over the top, but perhaps that’s just me.

What did we do?

Due to the bad weather we didn’t actually do very much as we arrived early Saturday rather than on Friday as planned. We cooked Friday night’s BBQ for lunch and then chilli on the bbq for dinner. We spent the afternoon on a very quiet and empty Morecambe bay which was stunning. We took advantage and played rounders, large snakes and ladders and cat and mouse.

Pros and Cons of Gibralter Farm campsite

  • The view, the view and the view again. Utterly stunning.
  • Right on the beach.
  • Very very cheap. £38 for two nights for a tent and a car.
  • Lots of space for tents (when we visited)
  • Plenty of flat pitches, separate areas for vans and caravans!
  • Showers and toilets very very clean and lots of them
  • Nor far from the M6.
  • private camping area for groups
  • Missed being able to use a fire pit
  • Rules seemed fairly over the top
  • Really quiet to the extent that we worried we were being too noisy playing skittle at 10pm
  • No music allowed at all.
