Every toddler needs a good set of waterproofs. We all know how attractive puddles and streams are to our little ones!
Over the past few months I’ve been going to a forest school group with my son (now 19 months old). Forest Schools is an ethos that encourages child led outdoor learning, fostering the spirit of independence and adventure. Children experience the natural world through play, developing confidence and self-esteem.
For my son this means; sitting in the beck, throwing stones in the beck, filling up buckets, playing with the mud kitchen and pouring water. This always results in a wet and sometimes muddy boy.
His old waterproofs weren’t hacking it at all, they were an all-in-one type with a full zip down the leg, which wasn’t waterproof at all. Needless to say, I was really pleased when we were sent the Mikk-line waterproof suit from Adventure Togs to use and review.
The suit is made from soft, flexible PU coated fabric which feels great. It is waterproof, windproof, breathable and has welded seams. In sizes up to 4 years the suit has waterproof dungarees, for over 5 years these are elasticated over trousers.
The jacket fits really well, has elasticated cuffs and hood, and a zip with press stud storm flap. The dungarees are perfect for toddlers, they stay in place by the elasticated braces and have easy to use clips to get these off quickly. The ankles have elasticated hems and they have a really useful rubber foot stirrup which is great.
We’ve used these for a few months in all sorts of weather and the only time my son has been wet has been from sitting in a stream. I think in this situation water can steep between the cuffs on the ankle. He’s also had damp arms from putting his hands into buckets of water but I think this could only be avoided if the cuffs were much tighter which may not be comfortable and would be difficult to get on and off.
I’ve washed the suit once after a particularly muddy session in the forest. It looked as good as new afterwards and remains waterproof.
I would definitely recommend this suit and I believe it is good value for money considering the splash proof outfits available on the high street for the same amount.
You can buy the suit for £36.99 with free postage to UK which I feel is well worth it. The sizing has been great (my son wears age 1) and my boy has a lot of growing room in his. Mikk-line is an established Danish brand, made popular in the UK through the Scandinavian approach to outdoor learning.
Adventure Togs supply schools, nurseries and forest schools. You can buy your Mikk-line waterproof suit here http://www.adventuretogs.co.uk/mikk-line-waterproof-pu-rain-suit/

How lovely to see a child playing in the water/mud/leaves etc and really enjoying themselves and yet still keeping dry. Great outfit!
