There was a  great feeling of anticipation, excitement and joy at the press release of Disney’s  Bedknobs and Broomsticks movie, turned musical!

The story itself is now over 50 years old and follows the story of three young orphaned children as they leave wartime London to stay with Eglantine Price. Little do they know the mystical journey they are all about to embark upon.  The opening scene set the tone perfectly, as the sirens rang out around the theatre and darkness descended, my own children were sat opened mouthed  the edge of their seats.

The set was every bit as detailed and captivating as the scenes in the movie. They moved from scene to scene seamlessly and without effort transporting the audience along with them. From Portobello Road to the deep blue sea the puppetry and sets became more and more impressive to watch. The songs dazzled and you easily forgot they were escaping wartime London!

The acting was flawless and the music played by the orchestra accompanying the show was emotive and perfectly in sync with the unfolding narrative. I heard time and time again whispers of children in the audience asking the same question ‘when will the bed fly and surely it won’t move! When it did the excitement of my own children,  ‘it really is flying, it must be magic, I can’t believe they are so high’!

Overall this was an unforgettable experience and we were mesmerised throughout !

As in the song Substitutiary Locomotion which means to “give life to things without” the cast, crew and orchestra filled the stage alive with fantasy, magic and wholesome family fun!

The show runs until the 19^th March, parking can be found at the Q park opposite The Lowry. I fully recommend pre paying for parking before the show as this will save time when the shows finished. You can buy tickets here.
