It’s been fours years since we last visited Silcocks Winter Wonderland on Boxing Day with friends. We were thrilled to be able to attend the launch event last night knowing what excitement lay ahead!

Event City has been transformed into a Winter wonderland; giant candy canes, snow machines, Santa’s grotto and bright lights fill every corner of the arena – it’s hard to know where to start when you walk in!

Led by the children shouting and pointing at all they could see we headed straight to the rides which are dotted all over the arena. From the runaway train, the fun house, the caterpillar and hot air balloons they really have featured rides for all ages, there’s just over 50 in total so there was lots to do.

Throughout the night the compere on the main stage kept everyone updated on upcoming shows; Frozen, The Wizard off Oz and the Jedi knight school all featured, in addition to meet and greet with the characters.

Along with all the rides and shows is Santa’s Grotto which was beautifully designed, you could see the creativity and great effort which gone into the wonderland scenes whilst you wait to visit Santa himself!

The circus was such an added bonus this year – the skill and acrobatics were jaw dropping and definitely inspired my own acrobatic boys!

Nearly three hours in we hadn’t even stopped for a drink. The vast array of food stalls catering for every taste from Greek kebabs to chocolate churros, provided plenty of choice for refreshments (we went back for Churros twice!)  After stopping for a quick refuel it was back to the rides again.

I would definitely recommend considering eating before you go to really get as much as possible out of the four hours you have there.

One thing that really struck me throughout the night was that during the pandemic children have missed out and are still missing out on so many activities and milestones. The night we had at Winter Wonderland was one of pure fun and laughter and looking round the arena it seemed that everyone else was feeling the same way. The joy on the smiling faces of the children was just priceless!
