St Helens Theatre Royal turned the original children’s fantasy Wizard of Oz into a real charming and wonderful pantomime.  

The cast of Mia Molloy, Reece Sibbald, Harry Moore and Scott Gallagher were an impressive foursome with great chemistry, making the most of some sparkling original and new tunes. 

The vocals throughout the performance were wonderful, and the Wicked Witch (played by Abigail Middleton) ‘Bat Out of Hell’ performance was phenomenal, great vocals and passion.  My son fell in love with her character as she played it so remarkably. 

And who can forget Dorothy herself played by Mia Molloy. Dorothy was very likeable and her beloved dog Toto was enchanting, so well-behaved. 

Dorothy, the Wicked Witch and Scarecrow really brought the show to life.  Scarecrow brought just the right amount of innuendoes and the lovely lady on the front row I must say was a trooper and really did engage with scarecrow.

Glinda the Good Witch, in a sparkling dress was a bundle of joy with a real presence she lit up the stage every time she appeared, again a beautiful voice. 

There was one part of the show, the black-out sketch involving fluorescent puppets, I was unsure how this really fitted in, however my young children enjoyed it and that is all that matters. 

The colourful design and costumes were impressive, so much so that my young son went home asking to have a mural on his wall just like the one in the show. 

The song choices were spot on and the choreography was energetic. The set, lighting, costumes, music were flawless. 

The show really did target both children and adults.  All in all the performance was a beautiful from start to finish and I would certainly recommend that you go to see Wizard of Oz at St Helens Theatre Royal
