I’ve recently been introduced to a ‘new to me’ outdoor lifestyle brand called Royal Robbins. I say new to me as Royal Robbins has actually been making stylish outdoor clothes since the seventies, but for some reason I’d not heard of them before.
I love this quote on their website
Royal & Liz Robbins were inspired to start the company after
seeing a photo of themselves at the top of Half Dome
in ripped shorts and realising there was a gap in the
market for stylish outdoor clothing. They started Royal
Robbins to make clothing that would go everywhere
and fifty years later, we still do.
Royal & Liz Robbins
The principle behind the brand is one that really appeals to me: “Dress Once.” The idea being that their clothing performs
well because it moves, dries, packs and wears extremely well. They embrace a refined aesthetic with a sophisticated, nature-inspired palette that is understated, classic and smart. It works on the trail, at the office, on a plane, at dinner. They suggest their clothing literally goes everywhere.
Now whilst I might not have worn the jumper or the t-shirt sent to me by Royal Robbins for my previous job as a lawyer, I may well have worn the waterproof trench coat to the office! It’s functional yet clever enough to do a few different jobs.
Women’s Waterproof Trench
The Women’s Waterproof Trench which retails at €249.95 is completely waterproof, windproof, and breathable, too. The visored hood provides full coverage but also allows you to see. I love the extended length too as it helps keeps your legs dry and your bottom whilst sitting around outside.
I’m a size 14 in most places and I’m wearing a size L which is definitely the right size to wear big jumpers underneath although I could have sized down to the M for less bulk underneath.
It’s also amazing for travelling as it not only packs up small, but has been designed so you can use it as a pillow. I think this would be the perfect coat to take on our African travels as it can be packed away small, is light, can be used as a pillow, and would also withstand those famous rainfalls that can happen, particularly when like us you often travel out of season.
I also love the detailing on the coat. The buttons and the zips all feel substantial like they are going to last for a very long time. It definitely feels like a quality piece of kit.
On these photos I’m also wearing the Hemp Terry Pullover.
Women’s Vacationer Hemp Terry Pullover
This pullover in what’s called Salt Stone, but I would suggest is dusky pink, is as warm and soft as described. It’s a really lovely jumper and has become my go-to for pulling on to go to the gym as it’s longer length makes it perfect for wearing with leggings.
The cozy terry is apparently made from hemp and organic cotton for natural, sustainable durability and comfort. The tall funnel neck has a three-button closure that lets you choose different ways to wear it and gives it some lovely detail too. My only complaint is that the longer length (which makes it perfect for leggings) means I can’t wear it with some of my other jacket style coats. I can of course wear it with the Royal Robbins trench though.
The jumper retails at €99. Again I am wearing a L when I usually wear a size 14. It’s definitely oversized and really comfortable. I could probably have worn an M.
Women’s Spotless Traveller Short Sleeve
I’ve yet to actually wear this lovely tee as it’s not really been the weather for it, but I can already see that it will be a perfect t-shirt for holidays. From the fact that it dries quickly, has anti stain properties, won’t need ironing and has a hidden pocket for a cash card/money etc. It looks perfect for trips away and I’m looking forward to trying it on our next holiday.
As with the other items I ordered a size L, and wouldn’t have wanted to get a smaller one. It’s not tight but not as generous size wise as the other ones. This t-shirt retails for €79.95
Summary
I’m really looking forward to taking all these clothes on an actual trip and seeing how they perform. I have high hopes though as the quality feels great.
