This review was submitted by Emma who went on holiday to the Lake District with her husband and two young boys.

We were staying on the western side of the Lake District and surprisingly had some lovely weather so we took advantage of it by visiting a couple of beaches.

The first was Seascale.  This is a sandy beach, so great for building sandcastles. There is a great walkway out to sea and the tide goes out quite far so there’s plenty of room to run around or fly a kite!

Other points to note are the playground opposite with a ‘castle’, which is actually a memorial but a great area for playing. And don’t forget the ice cream – Mawson’s is amazing!

The other beach we visited was St Bees which is a little further north. This was a rocky beach when we visited but is apparently sandy when the tide is out. The views were stunning.

Although the beach was fun, the best bit by far was actually the playground just behind it. It looks very new, even smells new!  It has a proper pirate ship to play on, climbing frames, zip slides, and a great area for little ones – we struggled to get ours away!  Just nearby is a toilet block (always useful when at the beach) including a dogs toilet – never seen one of those before!  There is a cafe here too, which naturally also sells ice cream!

If you are holidaying in the Lake District you might also like to visit Muncaster Castle in Ravenglass or Beatrix Potter World in Windermere.
