Last week, (on the only gloriously sunny day we’ve had so far,) we were invited to Sale Waterside Arts Centre to take part in ‘Sing Along Trolls.’ I’ll admit I was a little devastated to miss the snippet of sunshine but what a fun afternoon we had!
Sing Along Trolls was a one off showing which my 4 year old and I really enjoyed. The compare came on for a few minutes at the beginning to welcome everyone. It was a bit loud and my little one looked slightly stunned at first but he soon had her and all the others rolling in their seats with jokes, a fun rendition of ‘My Bonny Lies over the Ocean’ and finally an introduction to his friend, a puppet who was insistent on saying rude words (I’m reliably informed the word was underpants and the puppet’s name is Trevor, she loved him!)
The film started and as you would expect karaoke kicked in for the songs. What I hadn’t expected was the lovely, relaxed atmosphere which saw upwards of 20 children pop down to the stage for a dance! A combination of jumping, shape throwing and general excitement followed, with a few cuddles for the scary bits!
A real gem, the Waterside has a family club which you can join, giving discounts throughout the year. For just £7.50 per family you get a range of discounts on family films, art events and invitations to special events. The link is here https://watersidearts.org/whats-on/?category=family. Although tickets are sold for the spring, more tickets will be coming available in May. They have a few exciting family events coming up including Sarah and Duck for Pre schoolers on the 3rd May and Michael Rosen’s Chocolate on Weds 30th and Thursday 31st May which is sure to be fun for all the family.
My only issue as someone who isn’t very familiar with the area was parking. The Waterside Centre is central to Sale, about 5 minutes walk from Sainsburys, where I parked. You can get 2 hours for £1 here and it meant I could pop in for some water, but it did mean we were cutting it very fine for time. What I hadn’t realised was if you park on the Q Park (about a one-two-minute walk away) the Waterside will discount your ticket which I would definitely do next time; I’m told it gives you 20 percent off, usually costing around £2.50, well worth it in my opinion.
All in all we had a great afternoon and are still singing, dancing and of course saying underpants for comic effect, thanks to the Waterside, see you again soon.
NB: I was lucky enough to be given tickets to review Sing A Long Trolls but all views and opinions are my own.
