We like ways of saving money here at Mini Travellers. We like a good 241 deal and ways of getting free days out or meals without even really thinking about it. So here are some of our top tips of how to get something for nothing!

NB: Post in collaboration with vouchercloud

1.Collect points or vouchers when you fill up with petrol.  I often choose where I am going to fill up our car based on what deals are going on.  We’ve had free meals, money off days out, free chocolate (always a winner!).

2. Buy Kellogs cereal when they have their 241 offers on the side of the packet. Collect the cut out bits off the packet and save a fortune. You can visit Chessington, Sea Life, The London Eye, Warwick Castle and all sorts of other places this way.

3. Shop with Tesco? Make sure you have a clubcard, register it, start collecting points and then look out for double points events throughout the year and trade them in for days out. We have had some fab trips over the years to Alton Towers and other theme parks for nothing.

4. We are also now collecting airmiles thanks to a recommendation from Sarah at Extraordinary Chaos. I am hoping that we can save airmiles by spending what we would normally spend but paying for it on our American Express Card.  If we pay it off at the end of the month we won’t incur any charges and then we can exchange the air miles for discounts or upgrades on flights. There is a good blog post on collecting air miles here. and we recently flew business class to Oman for less than £400 for two people.

5. We also always Google offers for where we are going before we go. Often this reveals that it is cheaper to book online, at Thomas Land for example you save 50% booking a week in advance. You might find a local paper offer, or a voucher on Vouchercloud for 20% off. You might even decide to go a different weekend if they have a better offer running that day. We are pretty obsessive about this and have been known to make a group of twenty people print out different vouchers to make sure we can all benefit from the deal. It definitely pays to look around.

6. Take a picnic with you on a day out and don’t spend lots of money on food at the attraction which often isn’t amazing anyway, and if it is amazing there are often huge queues! You can then save some money by deciding to get a takeaway at home when you get back rather than eating out. Often less hassle with kids, just as little fuss, if not easier, and can be great value particularly if you find a code like this one for Dominos Pizza from vouchercloud!
