We recently had a mini break to Southampton during the kids Easter break and room2 Southampton very kindly agreed to host us in their Southampton Hometel. I was a bit confused by the reference to Hometel when I received the email. Was it a hotel, an apartment, an aparthotel? What was the concept?
The website for room2 Southampton says that their Southampton Hometel ‘is a place with all the comforts and flexibility of your home, plus the best bits of a hotel’ but what does this mean?
It means that you get more space, you get a kitchen, a table to work at or eat at, a really large sofa, and you get a full 24 hours when you check in! Yes that’s right a full 24 hours. Check in is at 2pm and check out at 2pm, it’s yours for the day – use it how you wish. Oh and yes you also get a really comfy bed.
Pets are also welcome! How unusual is that in a hotel. You just need to let them know beforehand and they’ll be ready.
There is also a laundry room open for guests to use with each wash and dry cycle at £3 each. Feel free to help yourself to their detergent free of charge.
We were booked into an amazing Master Loft room which is available from £149/night. The elevated loft space made the kids whoop with joy. It’s fitted with a comfy futon mattress and whilst only designed for 2 kids I can assure you that it fit 3, leaving me the whole king size bed for myself. One of them even considered sleeping on the shel as it was big enough for a seven year old!
Southampton Hometel Review| room2 Southampton
It was the extras that I really liked about the Southampton Hometel too. They had a great bits and bobs box on the table when we arrived. It’s a really novel concept but so simple. It’s a box that’s full of all the bits you occasionally need… sellotape, batteries, sewing kit, games and more. They’ve got one in every room, and you can help yourself to anything you need to use. I’m sure they don’t want every guest to use quite as many post it notes as we did as a family (we have a bit of a thing for them) but nonetheless the box of stuff was definitely appreciated.
Where is the room2 Southampton | Family Friendly Accommodation in Southampton?
The room2 Southampton is in a really convenient location too, and they have a small car park which you can pay extra to use. It’s walkable from the town centre and also from the docks.
Food at room2 Southampton
The food concept at the Southampton Hometel is slightly different too. They’ve included kitchens in all their rooms and made sure you always have plenty of options from ordering takeways to eat on your couch, to a hot buffet breakfast. We wandered into town (less then 10 minutes away) for dinner the night we stayed at room2 Southampton and had dinner at Byron Burger.
Byron Burger if you don’t know the chain does a proper burger and chips and lots more besides. The twins declared that the burgers were the best they had ever had and Lily thought her chicken nuggets were amazing. The chicken nuggets are 9 pieces of chicken Buttermilk-fried, and whilst she wouldn’t let me taste them, I presume they tasted just like my Buttermilk-fried chicken breast, which I had with smashed avocado, sriracha mayonnaise, pickled red onions, pickles, lettuce. Incredible!
The kids menu includes a main, a side, and a drink and is only £6.50 which is great value. The portion sizes are really good too, just like the food. The oreo milkshake Isobel had instead of dessert, was perhaps the best milkshake she has ever had too.
It definitely got the thumbs up from us.
Before we left the next day to head to Paultons Park we had a great buffet breakfast at room2 Southampton too. The kids particularly loved the waffle making machine, and definitely ate far too many however it set us up for the day!
We had a really fabulous stay at room2 Southampton and would highly recommend it for anyone wanting Family Friendly Accommodation in Southampton.
Looks like a great place – convenient too if you are jumping on the ferry.
Oh I like the sound of this. If you know what you’re getting, you could easily take some basic food and drink supplies to eat in the room. It sounds great for a family.
I’ve never heard of a hometel before – this looks like a great place to stay! x
