Enjoy a Christmas break in Cornwall

Want to get away for Christmas?  Ever thought about heading off to Cornwall and getting all cosy in a cottage for the Christmas break?

*NB this post has been created in collaboration with Cornish Horizons

There are loads of reasons to spend your Christmas break in Cornwall this year.

It’s significantly quieter for one, and getting there will be a lot lot easier. Roads without traffic jams are almost unheard of in the Summer but after a trip in Winter to St Mawes last year I can report roads without cars! A Christmas break in Cornwall is a real treat.

There are also some fabulous places to visit in the Winter. We loved a trip to The Lost Gardens of Heligan even in the rain with kids. You’ll need the right clothes on and you need to enjoy being outside if it’s raining, but we had a fun few hours there on a wet January day. Why not read our full review where you can see large installations like the one below, see farm animals, play on the adventure playground and even brave the rope bridge!

Things to do in Cornwall in Winter

The beaches are also good fun in the winter. You can still get your bucket and spade out, even if it’s cold. Just make sure you take enough layers!

There are also some great places to spend time inside, two that spring to mind are the National Maritime Museum and the Eden Project.

National Maritime Museum

A hands on museum with signs that say ‘Climb Aboard’ rather than ‘Don’t touch!’ It was interactive throughout and a perfect place to while away a morning with 3 five year olds and a 2 year old who thinks she is 5!  All for only £5 per child too. Definitely worth a visit whilst you’re in Cornwall particularly on a rainy day.  See our full review here.

The Eden Project

Whilst we thought this would be more suitable for kids over 8, the Eden Project continues to get rave reviews and no-one can fault the ethos behind the place.  Kids will love to run around and for children (probably around 8) there is a trail to be purchased that keeps them exploring new things. It’s two large domes provide wonderful cover in the rain.  One for the list!

  1. We have never been down to Cornwall but I love going away at this time of year. We are heading to Bath when the kids break up and I am so ready for a little break away. I bet the beaches are wonderful in December in Cornwall x
