We went to visit The Coldstones Cut the other day, a totally free activity, near Pateley Bridge and I struggled to find the answers to all my questions on one website – so here you go!
What is The Coldstones Cut?
The Coldstones Cut has been created by an artist Andrew Sabin right next to the Coldstones Quarry at Pateley Bridge. The sculpture, well more of a platform, allows you to view both the quarry (fascinating for kids and adults alike to see the way these work) and the Nidderdale valley. It’s also set out so that the kids can just run up and down the alley ways and round and round the ways up to the two viewing platforms which mine enjoyed. It’s also a totally free activity!
Where is The Coldstone Cut?
The Coldstones Cut is a huge piece of public art 2 miles outside Pateley Bridge and is situated on the B6265 between Skipton and Pateley Bridge.

The postcode for The Coldstones Cut is HG3 5BJ but then follow the brown signs when you get in the vicinity.
What amenities are at The Coldstones Cut?
There are no amenities at The Coldstones Cut just a small free car park.
How long does it take to walk up to The Coldstones Cut?
It took us around ten minutes to walk up to the top, and we were one adult and 3 kids aged 7, 6, 6. It’s a little steep but very doable for those ages. It was a little slippy on the way down and it was totally dry. Be more careful in rain.
Is it worth going to The Coldstones Cut?
This is a difficult question. The answer for me is yes if you’re close by, but it isn’t worth a huge detour. It’ll take you around 30-40 minutes all in, from parking at the bottom, walking up and walking back down.
My kids liked the huge bike – the tractor bike as they called it
and they also liked trying to work out which way all the places that we’ve been to recently were. The only problem with that was that the nearly 8 year old was tall enough to do this on her own, the two nearly 7 year olds weren’t!
