The Greatest Hits of Lily and John at Edinburgh Festival Fringe by Calum Sivyer and Rosanna Adams

Poppy and I had the rare treat of an evening out together, without the siblings, and we took the chance to check out Tritone Theatre’s play at this year’s Fringe.  At 14, Poppy sits at that pivotal point, when you don’t want to take them to a show which is too childish and puts them off, but equally you want to challenge them and develop their cultural outlook.  ‘The Greatest Hits of Lily and John’ was the perfect choice for this.  It was engaging, tragic and relevant, but also funny, sweet and hopeful for the future.

Lily interrupts her ex-boyfriend John’s pre-suicide song and what follows is her desperate attempt to distract, counsel and cajole him into considering the alternatives.  In doing this, they sing, they laugh, they dance and they cry in a beautifully performed story of our fragile times.  ‘The Greatest Hits of Lily and John’ is a raw and emotional tale of modern life and the intricacies of mental health.
