As the curtain fell and the audience took to a standing ovation, you couldn’t help but feel we had been part of something truly magical, a journey between different worlds, that left three nine years old boys questioning the afterlife. The House with Chicken Legs at Home Theatre Manchester was a dazzling show that you never wanted to end!

The House with the Chicken legs tells the story of  a 12 year old girl called Marinka  who lives in a House that has chicken legs! Yes that’s right chicken legs! Living with her Baba ( grandmother) together they guide the dead through to the journey of the stars. However as her house continues to move she can’t help but feel lonely and sad as she moves from place to place. All Marinka wants is a friend.

The theatre company, les Enfants Terribles managed to bring the stage alive. Through an eclectic mix of acting, music, costumes, set changes, CJI, puppetry and live instruments.

The acting was superb, we were captivated, sat in our seats, whether is was clapping along with actors, feeling empathy for their situation or  laughing out loud with them, it was a really immersive experience that was beautifully well done.

The costumes and set were incredible. It was hard to believe how the intricate detail was matched so well to each of the actors. When the house started to run the boys were sat perched on the edge of their seats. A house with Chicken legs, it wasn’t too hard to believe after all.

The puppetry was so realistic at the beginning of the show one of the boys shouted ‘there’s a bird flying across the stage’! Only after a while did he realise it was in fact a puppet.

Music, laughter, and the mix of CGI made this one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. All encompassing, it definitely rivalled any west end show.

Running at Home Theatre Manchester until 24th April, this show will fill your heart with warmth leaving you wondering wether you’ve been to a show or just joined in with the best house party in town!
