On Bank Holiday Sunday we went to The Lost Carnival at Burrs Country Park in Bury and it was brilliant.  Even though I had read one of our writers posts on Friday I still didn’t know what to expect. The post had said it was Weirdly Wonderful and I agree, that totally sums it up.  For me it was also a theatrical re-creation of a Victorian Circus with a modern twist.

The evening itself was relaxed, it was fun, it was a bit dark at times, it was colourful, it was theatrical and and it was easy to manage.  We had 8 kids between us at the event between 2 and 8 and they all really enjoyed it. The whole event was so visual that I will let the photos show try and explain our experience.

We all watched the acrobatics in amazement, the kids had their fears eaten by a fear eater (aka scary lady), we had our fortunes told and we danced to a band in the second field; oh and we chanted:

Step inside our little world,
a place where magic will unfurl

Open up your eyes and see,
what is now and used to be

Feats of strength, fortunes told,
juggling clowns from days of old

Save our show, with this rhyme,
a carnival that’s lost in time.

  1. Those photographs of the acrobats are amazing. I think I would have been very impressed with them. I love the idea of stepping back in time to a Victorian circus. But I think there are parts of it that I would have found very creepy. Hugs Mrs H xxxx
