Osmondmania” came to the Liverpool Empire at the opening night of The Osmonds : A New Musical
THE OSMONDS: A New Musical with story by Jay Osmond tells the true story of the five brothers from Utah who were pushed into the spotlight as children and went on to create smash hits, decade after decade.
The show is narrated by Jay Osmond who gives a ‘behind the scenes’ look of the Mormon family from Utah. From their star residency on The Andy Williams Show from 1962 to 1969, to pop stars and ‘Osmondmania’ from 1971 to 1975, to the arrival of The Donny & Marie Show, a popular variety TV show, from 1976 to 1979, The Osmonds lived a remarkable life recording chart-topping albums, selling out vast arena concerts and making record-breaking TV shows-until one bad decision cost them everything.
The Osmonds : A New Musical is rather long and gets a bit lost in the middle but it made up for it with the energy and enthusiasm of the cast as they performed hit after hit that made the Osmonds so successful.
Little Jimmy Osmond belts out Long Haired Lover from Liverpool, Marie sings Paper Roses and Donny’s Puppy love has everyone gushing.
Osmond fans clearly enjoyed a trip down memory lane but the whole audience joined in the party as the show ended with a medley of songs before those Crazy Horses had everyone stomping in their seats.
